While the state might have mucked up here surely there is a part responsibility on any unfairly deported human being (who isn't intellectually abnormal) to ensure that they themselves have documentation. If you just step off the boat or airplane and think that's it and that you are assured permanent residence in a foreign land yet have no papers stating such then you are an idiot.

Latest seems to be that not all the landing documents were shredded - they are in the National Archive - well tens of thousands of them found so far......

Its not just the foreigners. I just heard a home grown idiot on LBC bitching about our intolerant government. He then whined because even though born here he doesn't have any documentation so if he had to prove it (he hadsn't been asked) he couldn't. Quite rightly the presenter told he it was down to him to regularise his documentation. He claimed he couldn't apply for a passport or a job because of it. I bet he managed to claim benefits though. Windrush is a specific issue but as Stirlingsays you have to take some personal responsibility.

If you relocate to another country any person with two brain cells knows you require documentation. Not to have any is a mark of irresponsible stupidity. You offer excuses for them but yet none for the administrations. Excuses from a politics that's full of excuses and finger pointing at anything else except taking personal responsibility. If you are so accepting of stupidity you shouldn't be so inconsistent about where it comes from.

She added: These people are British. They are part of us; they helped to build Britain and we are all the stronger for their contributions.. Mrs May, admitting that the Windrush people are British.

I know the concept may be difficult for you but you can become 'British'. You can move from the country you were born in (hence mother country) and move to and take on that new nationality. It isn't the same as having lived here for generations but we have to accept some equalization at some point. Allegiance is what matters. If a person does that in good faith and works hard I have no objection to them gaining that acceptance. I have a problem with the ones who use my nationality as a flag of convenience.....Both them and the fifth columnists are as bad as each other. Outside of that.....I really couldn't give two figs what May thinks about nationality. She is an embarrassment to the grass roots of the Tory party and only there to keep a internal coalition together before Brexit. The party won't allow her anywhere near an election ballot box again. I can't stand the woman. Edited by Stirlingsays (21 Apr 2018 12.48pm)

She said those in detention must be released and those who had been removed must be invited to come back and be compensated by the government. Think what it means: you are separated from your families and your friends, you are separated often from your healthcare treatment. You are humiliated. And they did not care that they were humiliating people who helped to rebuild this country after the second world war.. There may be some compensation, and possibly relaxation of the hostile immigration policy, but like Grenfell the PM will be moving on out of range swiftly. That Windrush people are British her spokesperson has confirmed that is their legal status.

So finding those papers must mean loads of people don't need a ton of our dough( and theirs) for anxiety then.
