They were were given permission but not by Damien Green. I am not sure my neigbour would be happy if I gave police permission to search their home. Only difference is there would have been a sham enquiry had a Labour minister been involved. I'm not even going to address the 'offence' because he shouldn't have even been in the position to lie about it but that's pretty serious police misconduct. The relationship between the press, police and parliament is pretty toxic at times.
