Bought Mutch for over 5 million, where s he now.
Bought Lee very average.
Kelly, Bakary Sako, very average championship players. It was only Allardyce buying better players that kept us up.

That also shows that Pardews budget was around only £10mill for that plus the £10mill for Cabaye. Given that he did do rather well overall.

We were fifth at the midway point of the 2015/16 season and we should have gone on to achieve another record finish, but instead of carrying on with more of the same it all went to Pardew's head. Expansive football my arse; we only won two more games that season and a total of six in 2016. We were the worst team in Europe.

Yes we got to a cup final by putting more effort in to winning cup games than we did in the league, whilst other clubs of our size were concentrating on their league position. Even his tactics in the cup final were risible culminating in his indulging in a dad dance when he should have been organising the defence of our lead. As for backing, wasn't he given a massive new contract? At one point I thought Parish had fallen in love.

A man who was "bored" with training and was uninterested in goals conceded, he would have relegated us for sure. He was sacked six months too late is the truth.

Kelly was purchased by Pulis.

Those new players were bought/loaned either before Sam came on; or by the management while Sam was still warming his fat ar*e on the Head Coach's chair.

BTW, other than Mutch, you mention all reasonable squad back-up players.

Also, do you think a team of our size and with our infrastructure could keep players of the calibre of Cabaye, Benteke and Zaha happy if they didn't play every week when fit? We are not Manchester United; and are not in Europe.

Like it or not, our squad will always have good Championship players in the reserves... albeit slowly improving season by season.

Some proportion and perspective required please.

That is why we are in the position we are in and more to the point we do not even have 11 quality first team plays, sorry to disagree but the records speaks for itself, no progress after nearly five years in the top flight!

Words fail me, but any other club would have given him the boot a long, long time before we did.

But isn’t that the problem with Pardew he’s so blinkered arrogant and stubborn that’s exactly what you would expect him to say. Meanwhile in the real world he should have been sacked after the fa cup final

15th in the PL and lost a Cup Final to Man Utd in extra-time after going ahead. To many outsiders sacking Pardew at this juncture would have seemed a very harsh and strange decision.

A pointless and irrelevant stat. The previous 12 months under him saw us win 19 games and draw 6, 63 points which would have see us finish 6th and qualify for Europe in either of the two seasons of that calendar year.
Those two back to back years personify the Palace rollercoaster ride to me, wouldnt have it any other way.
2015 was an incredible year, 2016 was awful on paper, but we still managed to stay up and got to a cup final in the middle of it.

Wow, some of the responses on here just do not make any sense. This is a results based game. After a fast start, Pardew then won just 6 matches out of 38 which made us the most unsuccessful club (stats wise) in the UK at the time. How on earth would anyone keep their job with that set of statistics. What made the situation even more pertinent was the fact the performances were slowly but surely getting worse and worse with no light at the end of the tunnel. This is exactly the pattern that emerged at Newcastle and as the Mag so smugly kept telling us, "wait until plan A stops working". Whilst I could never respect the Mag or its's writers for their often disgraceful journalism and continued blame of Pardew 2 seasons after he left for their predicament, in that respect they were totally right. Pardew does not have a plan B, which is why he is not a good manager in my opinion and is why he will take WBA down to the Championship, if not this year, then next.
