That is only a matter of time. There is a 3D Printers on Essex St (I think) where you can get an Action Man sized figure of your actual self if you so want, cost about 800 Bucks (500 odd Quid)There is talk of using them on International Space Station to make parts & I've seen body parts made where people have had accidents like lost a finger or had an ear ripped off. That's the way it will go..

Problem is going to be finding a plastic polymer that's effective under the kind of stress a gun is put under when firing - 3D printer guns are basically one shot 'zip guns'. In terms of a matter of time, gun manufacturers haven't achieved that yet, so I'd hazard a guess that 3-D printer polymer that can do that is a way off.

Plus you still need the bullets. You can't print gunpowder (or bullets).

This is unlikely - unless someone can invent a polymer that is effectively gun metal. The problem of 3D printed firearms is that the barrels and mechanism are only good for one shot, due to the degredation caused on the plastic by firing a round.

Plus of course you need bullets - which aren't exactly easy to come by in the UK. Even if you could download and assemble an assault rifle or handgun, that could sustain the pressures of gun fire, you'd still need to buy the bullets.

And other than shotgun shells, ammo is scarce in the UK other than 3-03 rifle rounds and .22 rounds for handguns and rifles (and even buying the available ammo requires a licence). Getting 5.56 or 7.62 or 9mm ammo is almost impossible except from illegal sources (the first two probably as close to impossible as it gets).

Just give it time Jamie, there are websites that have all the cad files freely available to download, this includes 3d printed ammunition, all that's needed is gunpowder (potassium nitrate, charcoal & sulphur) actually just filter the glitter & crap out of fireworks & you have black powder.

I have no clue how you make smokeless gunpowder, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to get the chemicals needed for it.

It's probably a bit dystopian on my part but give it 10 years and we will have fully printed assault rifles capable of over 600 rounds which you will be able to download and print in your own home with the only expense being the materials to build it.

I honestly think handguns will be made legal in the UK as a form of self defence as a counter to this and a few other things. it's inevitable.

Yeah but what you have there is a s**t gun probably good for one decent shot, a bullet that's massively unreliable, that's as likely to explode when you pull the trigger as to fire. A less reliable firearm than a musket or flint lock pistol, which you can legally buy and own anyhow (as they're antiques).

And if you have a magazine of 'gunpower' bullets, chances are a misfire it taking your hand off.

You can make a zip gun from elastic bands, a bullet, a piece of wood, a nail and a bit of metal tube - without having to own a 900 quid printer (and find instructions on line on how to do this). Hell for 900 quid, and a bit of effort of asking around you could probably buy an black market handgun with a magazine of ammo.

Maybe in 10 years, but I don't think that's the case - because guns manufacturers are more than 10 years ahead of 3-D printer tech, and they're not using cheap plastic parts but precision high stress tolerant metal alloys.

In theory you could make a shotgun out of two pieces of metal pipe, some elastic bands, nails and some wood. But you'd be the bravest man in the world to pull that trigger.

I went through my entire twenties with an assault rifle
in my boxer shorts.

I'm amazed I wasn't locked up.

More a paint gun now.

You were only sporting a 5.56m I'm not surprised no one noticed you were assaulting them.

Me, I'm more of a 12ga - not so accurate, prone to accidental firing but with a decent spread, but mostly pump action....

I have an impressive assault weapon, especially if you are measuring it in millimeters.

Maybe they did complain....I couldn't hear them over the sound of how fantastic I was.

Have you got a license for your weapon? It sounds like the authorities need to be aware of it!

Its a sawn off shotgun now, so its an offence for it to exist in the UK...
