Indeed it is - great lady.

Got thrown out of the Rose and Crown (the upstairs room was great) for being covered in flour (trying to be Fields of the Nephilim) I worked at the Ship for two three years and Kevin and Barbara were the greatest landlord and landlady that have ever existed (if anyone knows where they are now I'd love to know). Worked at the Dog and Bull for a bit which was the best Young's pub ever. Assistant manager at the Rileys, which was s***, but Ray was nice. Yeah I was well happy there.

You’ll know us then. Four pints of special to take away in a milk jug.

As you say, quite a lady, remember her winning the bingo/jackpot in the Beulah club, and trying to buy everyone a drink,of course no one took her up on the offer

Haha, I may have served you but I generally did the day shift then went straight off to work at the Ship. I mostly knew the market lot, Johnny Herbert, Aitch, Everard (lovely guy) and all that lot.

Bangell - If Camus wrote The Myth of Sisyphus today, it would be about Jason Puncheon eternally trying and failing to pass with his right foot.

She died in 1994, the wake was in the Beulah Club I think (a local social club anyway) big turn out - we are a large family. Her first name was Leah but she always used her second name of Minnie.

I used to with a few from Philips on the Purley Way - they were from the area and knew Bill and his band were great and I loved it too - the used to be some ok jazz at the Red Deer - shame fewer pubs have live music these days.

Probably know you, I was only thinking of Kevin and Barbara a day or so ago. Played pool for the Ship and spent many an early morning on an upstairs pool bar lock in.

I think the big companies moving out is a big factor. Are the BT and Nestle buildings still sitting there empty ? Croydon used to be a big business centre and has alot of office space which, only guessing but I would have thought well than under 40% occupied? Take away the Home Office buildings and Wellesley road would be a virtual ghost town.

Croydon Centre needs to be completely reinvented and reinvigorated and find a new identity, it's just a relic of it's past at the mo

Really? It looks like there is a huge influx of young people into Croydon. Maybe mostly commuters but I don’t recognise the ghost town image at all.

I guess you assume everyone is scared of Black and Muslim people like you are and would also choose to run away.

Scared of them? All these 'communities' merely choose not to live with each other - multi-culturalism does not work.
