It is technically possible, but very difficult if within a recognised, and ratified country as you need other countries to recognise you as an independent state. However, if you were to do so, without breaking with continuity within the UK (ie paying taxes, adhering to laws etc) you could probably get away with doing things like issuing your own passports (for entry to the house), creating your own money for use in your country etc without any real problems. People would just think you weird. It's nigh on impossible. Sealand is a good, and recent, example.

Are there no other people in your house (wife, girlfriend, children) or who have legal relationship (ex-wife, grown children / heirs etc). Also the bank if you have a mortgage would likely have a say. My house. Anyone in it is on a temporary visa for this scenario.

I think you could technically achieve it, if you remained within the laws of the UK, and declared independence in name only (Call your house and land Stukitania or Martinsland, and effectively play at being an autonomous state within the UK). If you went further, like refusing to pay tax, I think you'd be f**ked (but you could argue that paying tax is your trade that you do with services outside of your country). But yeah, becoming truly independent, almost impossible.

If it's not to refuse to pay tax, what's the point. To stomp about on your balcony, issuing orders, wearing a white generals uniform, gold braiding shining in the sun, shaded by a sweet peaked military cap and aviator shades....
