Why, surely its exactly the right time and place, when they have a public forum. If you can't protest when you have public focus on you is at its highest, when could you. To me, this sounds like people closing down free speech and free expression of ideas. When the national anthem is playing, and the world is watching, is exactly the right time to take a stand. So people can't have sport now without it becoming a focus for politics? So Fifa and the Olympics can be taken up with political protests now? I don't know about banning people...... but would you have no issues if your work mate did a political protest in your workplace every morning? And at the end of the day.....Hell, why not include it in the lunch break too. This isn't about taking away people's expression because they are allowed to express these views. It's about doing it within the appropriate spaces for it.

Unfortunately many of those who claim to be interested in 'freedom or speech or expression' aren't in the slightest. They are interested in what they perceive to be 'their freedoms' being taken away and not one bit about a structure that contained views and forms of expression that they both agree and disagree with.

How about an anti mass immigration one at Selhurst next week? How about no. Politics has no place in sport. Same could be said of you. The likelihood is if an anti mass immigration protest took place at place you probably wouldn't mind or at least not speak out about it.

Frankly that's rubbish. Don't speak for others.

One rule for all. Sport and politics is a no no. It is a misuse of position. I don't give a s*** what some footballer thinks and neither should you. You're posting this on a football message board.

Will anyone go down on their knees when the Red Flag is sung at the Socialist Conference - to protest at the suppression of free speech, the imprisonment of political dissidents and, more often than not, state-sanctioned mass murder - carried out wherever socialism has been attempted.
We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |
