Nick is free to communicate with those who want to hear him. I wouldn't support taking his free speech away. No one stopped Sein Fein's free speech either. All the government did was stop their audio being broadcast nationally on TV because they supported violence. They were still interviewed and still shown and allowed to get their message across. If you are an organisation supporting the murder of citizens that's a reasonable course of action....It didn't even apply during elections. They were not stopped from speaking to their supporters at events and I wouldn't have supported that. That is what is happening in Berkeley. Edited by Stirlingsays (22 Sep 2017 10.59pm) The bit about Sein Fein isn't entirely correct, the government initially banned them being broadcast, but were forced to allow broadcasts, as preventing them speaking was unlawful, so they required that the voices were 'dubbed'. Whilst we all know that Sein Fein did support the Provisional IRA, they didn't support their acts publically, but rather didn't condemn them and placed them in a historical context as being inevitable. A moot point, because everyone and their wife knew that Sein Fein and the Provisional IRA were effectively a hand and a glove.

You make it sound like Sin Fein and the Provisional IRA were different entities. They were and are the same organisation, led by the same criminals.
We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |

A moot point, because everyone and their wife knew that Sein Fein and the Provisional IRA were effectively a hand and a glove. The situation is a bit difficult for me. I support free speech of pretty much anything that doesn't involve encouraging violence, is provable libel (which in most cases happens after the fact) and obscenity (which in reality are extreme examples) So as Sinn Fein basically were the party that represented a group actively murdering innocents I never had a problem with what happened. However, they were also a group that held democratic seats. So this gave them a representative mandate....then again this mandate wasn't for the mainland. Difficult.....However, if they had publicly rejected the use of violence as a means to achieving their political aims I would have accepted what I personally find hard to accept. I'm not sure they ever did that until very late on. If they had...even though I'm aware of the sophistry......the dictates of democracy permits them a voice......You civilise by being civilised without turning your back.......or as Kissinger said, walk softy but carry a big stick. This "free speech week" seems only to support very dubious alt-right speakers. It seems that their supporters see it as a bit of a one way street.

Yup,the highly intolerant going on about free speech is somewhat ironic... What do you mean 'intolerant'? None of these speakers are against free speech....rather obviously. It's a section of people on the far left who are. Just recently we had a rally in Boston closed down by protesters screaming 'Nazi' when no one far right was at the rally......Hysteria. These speakers are probably alt-lite if anything. Milo is a part Jewish homosexual with black boyfriends.....But the 'alt left' don't care about things like accuracy or the truth of anything....not if it gets in the way of them chanting 'Nazi'. UC Berkeley.....where free speech and independent thought go to die. Update from Milo. The events will go ahead but it's been forced out of Berkeley and so will be held outside at the plaza. The police have apparently agreed to protect them. Edited by Stirlingsays (24 Sep 2017 12.26am)

Do you have any evidence that the speakers are "hate preachers" to back up your ludicrous claim? Do you know much about The First Amendment to the United States Constitution?
