I agree. To be fair, getting Sakho back will eventually make a difference (when he's fit to play) in a back four and we do still have that space in the 25 for a free agent. But, as it stands, we are taking a big risk on both the GK and striker positions.

It was actually 5 teams, apart from us it was Man Utd, Man C,Swansea and Watford.Burnley abstained.

It must have been clear to FDB he was working with a very weak middle and back lineup that was compensated by a very strong forward line up, so yes it was touch and go last season. However, there is plenty to suggest that Frank was trying out players in different formations, knowing he won't have a lot to spend and went and got what he could for free plus 8 mils to top up the center, and openly stated he wanted a defender, a goalie and a forward. Actually given the size of the squad he had very little time to teach and get to know all the weaknesses. Ended up I guess in frustration looking at the development squad for answers, who ERONOUSLY he put faith in to perform with confidence. Again unlike many on this board, I am admitting that this is speculation. Although Gary Neville's summation after the Swans game in MOTD suggested that is exactly what he was doing. To disregard the injuries to Zaha Loftus-Cheek and Reidewald with such a thin squad, therefore should not have affected the strategy or re positioning of players is naive which I know you are not, but I guess that's your view. Since I have not seen you allude to those facts with any vigor. Frank needed half a team minimum to play 3-4-3 and that's on top striker, keeper etc etc etc. It was a ridiculous idea that was supposed to be a plan b, not plan a and forget all about the other plan.

The mistakes happened because of the players and other players' positioning, therefore the formation that the players are not suited to and are out of position in. Ward all over the place, PVA too high up, confusion with marking and tracking over crosses from his or both wings.

Interested to see whether he plays a back 3 or back 4 against Burnley.
