No it's not. The first eleven may be stronger but "squad" includes cover for injuries and suspensions and we are actually weaker than last year in some areas. Yes it is.

Yes it is. And if Benteke and Hennessey are injured? Who's going up front and on the bench as substitute keeper?

Whilst I have been very vocal on here about the need for another striker/winger to come in, I suppose you could make the argument that we haven't got particularly 'weaker' in that area either? Would we be much happier if we had kept Fraizer Campbell? Is there an argument that the youngsters provide a similar amount of cover what we had last season anyway? Still would have liked another option mind...

Mundane as it sounds, a centre forward is not just there to score but to give the opposition central defence something to occupy themselves with.

He may not have been great, but he at least looked like an experienced striker with his movement and work rate. I'd love it if one of the kids could do this, or Sako could be converted, but that's asking a lot...

Loftus Cheek certainly has the physical presence, and he also has the necessary control. Wilf won't win much in the air (I think the only time I've seen him attack the ball with his head convincingly was in the play-off semi final), but if he gets the ball in the area rather than out wide I think we'd have a pen every other game!

Think most of us are agreed. Great to get Sakho but frankly negligent of the board not to bring in a striker and a goalkeeper. What do we do when Benteke is injured / tired / can't be bothered? He needs someone challenging for his position but clearly that won't happen. We have NO adequate back up striker, or just someone to mix things up. And another season with Hennesey who is 9 times out of 10 dreadful... Hasn't Christian also received 2 yellow cards this season, therefore he is on his way to a possible suspension, or he will have to change his aggressive style required as a striker, which will detract from his normal game greatly.

The Centre Forward position as others have said will have to be experimented with. Three straight losses by being thrown in the possession-play deep-end. We then 'develop' our attacking play with clever through-passes from central midfield. How many more points lost before we get it right?
