You have to admire the guts of FDB and SP to turn around it around from a club that keeps fighting relegation every season to a club and a team that can hold there own and can push on and mix it up a bit in the top 10. We cannot introduce untried youngsters when we are fighting to survive or fighting to get a foothold in the PL.We can only afford this luxury through a position of relative strength. The PL is very unforgiving.

Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

we seem to be one of the few clubs that are adhering to FFP. The authorities definitely need to deal with those that aren't PSG, Barca and Real especially. If what I've heard is correct they've found a loophole that is how they're now able to blast others out of the water; clever though it is, it's morale abhorrent! It's getting to the stage that where the most important member of the squad is an Accountant!

If the youngsters are seen as good enough then they are entitled to be picked and play just as much as anybody else in the squad.

We are not penniless but we do need to be prudent. 1) American money - we do not have £50m sitting in our bank. This money has been earmarked for the ground based on the last accounts I've seen it has yet to be paid to the club 2) the last accounts I've seen (FA cup year) we made a loss of £5m partly based on a lower league position. Cabeye purchase and wages would have contributed to this 3) since then we've spent a fortune on Benteke and his wages are massive 4) Sam then spent big in January - I don't think this outlay was budgeted for earlier in the season 5) the high wage bill with people on long term contracts isn't helping. Pardew/Parish have given long term contacts to people like Punch and Dann at 29 so they will still be on our books at 34. Pardew signings Chungy/Sako and Mutch are costing us c£150k per week and this doesn't include transfer fees (not Sako). So whilst all is not doom and gloom you only need to look at say QPR to see how overspending can damage the club long term.

Our, and England's arguably, best left back was Kenny Samson who was playing for Palace at 16 yrs old. Howard Kendall was even younger when playing in an FA Cup Final for PNE. If they are good enough age shouldn't matter.

ive been saying for a while now, that all these players weve wasted millions on over the last few years like guerdioura, mariappa, campbell, mutch, sako, chungy, adebayor to name a few. when you weight up time on the pitch & what theyve actually added to the performances we should have been bringing thru kids on 10% of their wages to be "squad/bench places", and i hope this is the way we go moving forward. its all good saying lets sell chungy/sako/jimmy mac but i bet their wages average out north of 40k a week and i wouldnt blame them if they didnt move for a paycut as i wouldnt if i was them. some team, probably championship will take those 2 on, jimmy mac good enough for PL team. like kermit said earlier, sako & mutch will have cost the club over £20m for what? if schlupp stays with us for the duration of his contract he will have cost the club in excess of £30m just take these numbers in fro a minute and realise were punching above our weight I get that, which is all the more reason to get rid of them and move to a more sustainable model. Hence the reason I like the appointment of FDB, as he has an excellent record developing young players. That, for me, is the long term strategy the club needs.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |

As my previous posts states and further thought about the youngsters. Why spend more money on a player when a youngster who FDB thinks is good enough can play and prove to be a gem.

You seriously come out talking about a top ten finish.....? I'd sign immediately for staying up as a scenario where some of out Key players , namely Benteke and Wilf, are out for longer periods could easily lead to us being in serious trouble. injury Originally posted by Palace4861
Agree with OP. We are in this position due to bad panic signings when previous managers and Parish spend loads on average championship players giving them large contracts to get them in .
