Any injury to a winger, we relying on Lokilo to play 30 games, also Benteke and wingback issues hasn't been addressed imo add to that a goalie. Edited by CPFC/SCCC (09 Aug 2017 7.20pm) Hey I still disagree that's it's contradicting, I've simply said maybe ward won't be a RWB and JimmyMac might be time to sell if we can get £8m. Also said I think it's great we've got frank and he's bloodig players. I've also said that those young kids shouldn't have the weight of the world on there shoulders and agree with you we could have a couple more players come in. But I also think our squad is playing well from what I've seen. None of that contradicts itself. Signing players doesn't exclude frank from blooding young players. Selling players doesn't mean I think we're in crisis. Buying players doesn't mean I think we've ill prepared. It's been a great preseason and I'm really looking forward to seeing the team play. Also interested in other players we might sign but happy with the way the lads are seemingly taking in the new ethos. Simples

Most fans know that the likes of mutch, Sako, Williams, Chungy are nowhere prem level

Spurs are a much bigger club than us, they have bought nobody. Sold Walker for £50m, had Trippier as back up, now he is injured. They only have Kane as a striker that can score, if he gets injured they are in trouble, plus they are in Champions League as well. Most of us accept the progress we are making, as it has never been seen before in the last 50 years. You have to accept there is planning going on behind the scenes for new players, but the market and demands of players better than we have is crazy. Good post. Our starting 11 and the subs that matter ,at the start of every season is getting better, which is progress .

CPFC/SCCC we've always had a squad depth issue. That's nothing new and takes many transfer windows to address. Having a manager who is willing to blood young players may help this. Being frugal with our money may help this. You seemed to dig me out a few days ago for suggesting we might sign 4-5 players, yet you clearly want us to sign more. It's not the managers fault we have a thin squad but IMO he's doing a good job strengthening it on a budget. Working on a budget therefore takes a little longer. He seems to be doing what you want just not faster enough. I'd say just be patient and enjoy the ride. Edited by Goldfiinger (09 Aug 2017 7.59pm)

Edited by Goldfiinger (09 Aug 2017 7.59pm) I think my main frustration is that the manager process behind the eight ball by 2 weeks in my opinion. Yes we have a squad of 25 currently but these players aren't prem quality. I know a lot of business is done later in the window. Maybe it's my cup half mentality but concerned , we are 2 big injuries away from a crisis. You only have to look at the bench against schalke there wasn't one game changer from the subs bench, where points can be won and lost.

Pape was one injury causing a crisis that nearly sent us down. Sam leaving was another crisis which wasn't planned. Yes I'd agree that process did take longer than probably even Parish wanted it to take. I don't think any of us will know if FdB was our first choice. Personally I suspect we had Pellegrino lined up and he played us to flush Southampton out and we had to then rethink. But no one really knows why it took so long. But I'm not gonna throw Parish under a bus for it. I honestly think (cup half full) / hope we've stumbled upon a class act in FdB. And yes he's been playing catch up but let's be honest the buisness he has done: LoftusCheek Quality signings, Teams playing well in the new system, and we all expect more to come. For all those good reasons it's not such a bad thing we've had to wait. the club is in great shape and honestly can't see us struggling. But who knows BexleyDave might be right we might be relagtion fooder... I just can't see that from what I've seen. Oh and by the way CPFC/SSSC i actually like your posts so please don't think I'm having ago. Just surprised youre worried, surprised anyone is worried but then my cup is mostly half full. If my thinking is correct, when FDB was appointed there was talk in the media of Veltman and Tete from Ajax, Rami of Seville, even Van Persie etc etc which set a certain expectation regards our possible acquisitions.FDB was going to attract some established players ! Thus far we have signed a squad player from Ajax and another squad player from Chelsea on 'Loan' (No criticism of them from me) but some supporters expected better. Add into the mix Puncheon being appointed captain on the back of unimpressive performances and no backup for Benteke and all-in-all certain fans feel that we are not best placed going into the season hence a degree of negativity. For avoidance of doubt, all I am doing is trying to offer an explanation that's all.
Criticising a manager because he didn't sign someone we were linked with in the media is beyond moronic - I'm aware you don't necessarily support this opinion, but it's a ridiculous point nevertheless. The way you've described our transfer is also vague and misleading. In terms of the OP; you reference the Benteke transfer which I think is a perfect example that often the best business is done towards the end of the window - players and clubs are always hoping for a better offer, and it's not until the natural urgency that the window offers that they have to actually make a decision. For example, once Liverpool realise that no one is going to meet their asking price for Sakho, I suspect we will re-visit.

Regards to Benteke deal, I watched the debate show on skysports with Ian wright and pardew. He mentioned he's frustration about not signing Benteke before the wba game. He also indicated that in the end Palace paid the original fee quoted , when we first shown our interest of around 30m mark or with the add ons the fee will be meet. In this case according to mr pardew we stalled for the same deal that was available 3 or 4 weeks before.

Which is only one side of the decision - for all we know Benteke was assessing his options before committing. Either way, it's one example amongst many of good business being done at the end of the window. I don't think any team in the division have concluded their dealings for the window yet.
