In truth, a series written by wimps attempting social engineering for children is fine.....It hits a demographic out there...That's ok.....What bothers me is where's the alternatives? As it's public money funding this where's the series with traditional masculine and feminine characters? Why do we get this one trick pony of progressivism from the entertainment industry......I wouldn't even notice but having two small youngsters now I'm starting to notice this stuff. There's a reason Game of Thrones is successful. All I see is this sea of beta males trying so desperately to be feminists that they might as well have falsettos and high heels and be done with it. Edited by Stirlingsays (16 Jul 2017 7.29pm) Which massively subverts Masculine roles and stereotypes, notably by creating strong female characters. Of course GoT is for adults, and Dr Who is for children (and adults who probably should know better). But I see nothing wrong with giving girl fans of Dr Who (which there are a lot) a strong female role model yadayada. Notably of course Dr Who is not a traditional masculine role model, and never has been, and subverts the stereotype of male heroes (relying on intelligence, cunning and wit to win, rather than strength and power roles).

Also Missy might be the most interesting character Dr Who has had for a long time (I'm not a fan, but my wife is, so I do catch bits here and there).

I don't agree with the new Doctor IF she has just got the job because she is a woman. To me that is just as sexist as a man getting the job just because he is a man. However if she got it as she was the best candidate, good on her. Missy is possibly my favourite character and I hope she comes back.

But it would be ok if someone got the job because they were a man because it was originally a man. I'm up for takes on re-takes classic characters, having seen just how successful its been in comic books over the years (just about everything revolutionary in comic books stemmed from reinvention, from Sandman to Batman).

I didn't say that. The best candidate should get the job regardless. Can't say I've ever seen her in anything so I don't know whether she is good or bad.

More to the point, Dr Who is a programme of adolescent minded obsessives and I do not understand why any woman would want to be associated with this tedium.
