In the 1980's we thought we were moving to a paperless society, with documentation stored on computers and the pending email revolution. I think Google's worldwide server networks and (insert tech company) are just one of many examples. Look at the gradual transition away from paper money that's happening now (which is scary in other ways). The idea that moving to automation will just result in the same number of jobs but in different sectors only works in a system of competing continuous economic growth. When I joined my last company I wrote a justification document regarding Apprenticeships about 10 years ago. They had none. They thought they could just pick people up who had been trained by another company.

They listened and they started a trial scheme which has expanded every year.

I think more and more companies will be doing this. Its the best way to learn a trade.

It's a logical step, but yet another way of government exerting control over the people. The closing of bank accounts and complete say over peoples finances, which is not really as easy with physical cash - though can still be done in psrt through quantitave easing and the like.

Many might highlight this as politically trying to control people, which certainly factors in, but I think it's as more a '1%' type issue of keeping the working man in his place. As in, there is far more scrutiny over the finances of ordinary people than the rich and that would likely continue and worsen in a paperless society.

Without wishing to promulgate conspiracy theories or rehashing old threads there was an idea that Sweden didn't lockdown during Covid because they're already aiming for a cash free economy while the rest of us needed to be urged that way.
