He makes 80.000 a week now. Most substitute players are willing to take a pay cut to start playing again. I'm pretty sure he'd come for 60-70000 a week, which is more than any team in Italy, Portugal, France or Germany (except for Bayern) would offer him. If Palace would be a serious negociator and go to him saying: "We don't care if we get relegated. Oue goal is to make this team a great team. You can be certain of your 3 years of contract no matter what happens. If it happens and we go down it's just going to be 1 year in the Championship and we'll bounce right back. You and more signings will improve this team, in 3 years we'll be top7 in English football." Or heck, if he doesn't want to play in the Championship, all the better for Palace, as the wages are probably unsustainable there. You can have a clause that he can leave on a free in case of relegation. If a PL team doesn't snatch Coentrao up, I see him gone in the Gulf or in China, cause he's not going for low wages in other countries.

I wonder why it doesn't happen more often? Hmmmmm.

How do you know teams in Italy, Portugal, France or Germany wouldn't offer that to him? But anyway even if we did offer him wages 60-70 K a week, it is still very unlikely that he would join us, he is a top quality player who has won the Champions league and plays for one of the world's biggest clubs, he may not be their first choice left back but why would a player in like him want to drop down so much and join a team in our situation. These things just don't happen. How many other teams in relegation battles do you see signing great players from top clubs just because they aren't playing every week?

What you do is set up a second profile in Football Manager then sell the best players to yourself. Don't forget to 'retire' the new profile and bingo, upgraded squad of excellent players. Just like real life.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |
