Clearly goalkeepers are protected by the 18 yard box because I reckon if he makes the challenge outside the box he's off , didn't that happen a couple of years back when mcgregor made a challenge on one of ours versus hull I'm sure it was near the touchline when he made contact and he got a straight red I think

Aberdeen v Hamilton on Boxing Day same Fifa rules same situation , first thing ref did was blow for a penalty followed swiftly by a yellow card without hesitation proving that golden boy screwed up!

I've not seen this incident but it might have totally differed from the one against Watford in terms of the keepers challenge. One has to accept that perhaps no two challenges are identical in every shape or form.

Not discussed on match of the day and hardly here on the holmesdale. I think there is an argument that it was a yellow card, but never a red, and it shouldn't be a red either if a penalty is given. But I can see why in the moment the referee saw it as a collusion, not a deliberate kick and didn't give a yellow.

The problem with the Red Card and Penalty is that it effectively ends most games. Of course if the team misses the penalty they lose out. Also Beneteke if he goes past the keeper, also isn't in a clear goal scoring opportunity either. Its a very tight angle, and there is no support. Yellow card in opinion, with the benefit of hindsight of seeing the replay. Never a red. Also I don't think Clattenburg saw the kick, just the collision, otherwise he'd have got the yellow out.

Yeah I think he got it wrong, it should have been a yellow. But when the keeper brought down Beneteke, before I saw any replays, I didn't think it was by kicking out at the player, I thought it was just a late clumsy keeper charge. So I can forgive the referee that decision. The booking of Zaha, was harsh, as it probably wasn't either a foul or a dive.

You are completely wrong. It can still be dangerous play and it was. Sort of undermines your credibility in assessing Clattenburg if you don't understand the rules. If the referee doesn't see it though, he can't call it as such. If there was any justice, the FA / PML would penalise Gomes with a caution or ban, because it was reckless and intentional. But the referee has to see this, from across the pitch, in the midst of play. Its not like he has a good view of this, and nor does the lino or 4th official. Which is why Football should have replays for decisions when the ball has stopped and a decision made.

At the end of the day a referee can only give/ not give what he sees from his angle. He doesn't have the benefit of umpteen replays from different angles. Regarding technology I believe that whilst I understand the clarion calls for it's introduction when one looks into it in depth perhaps the phrase "The devil lies in the detail" is very appropriate.

No it didn't differ/both the same/identical, what other description would you like; so please stop trying to protect Clattenburg. This ought to have been at least a yellow and as others on here have said if the goalie was an outfield player it would possibly have been a red, his boot caught Benteke on the side of the knee. Do you ever see any wrong in our favourite ref because if you have I have never read it? Even he said that he makes mistakes and Mark this was one of them, do you agree Willo?
