and were such an enquiry held, what would be the outcome?, some 30 years later on

I don't know, that's why we need an enquiry to get to the bottom of what did go on.

Changing tack slightly, I wonder why several top level politicians, including the PM, intimated that there would be an enquiry a while back.

changing tack back again - what would you want the end result to be?

Yes and why so suddenly dropped with such lame excuses.

Is it because classified papers have become available after 30 years?

Do they have serious consequences for Mrs.Thatchers' reputation if she concealed that she was closing 75 pits and not the 20 she told parliament?.

That would decimate the coal industry and communities.

IMO it was an act of revenge for the toppling of a previous Tory government.

Nobody can offer you good consequences in advance - the truth first.

That doesn't answer my question, though. What outcome are you expecting/hoping for? And if this putative inquiry gets to 'the truth', what next?

Did Thatcher order this to happen like she did with the police in Orgreave?

It's good to keep an opened mind, but not so open that your brains fall out.

Maybe she did, it was common place and everyone knew that you risked a hiding if you got put in the back of a police van. Perhaps she instructed them to do it as a deterrent. Everyone certainly turned a blind eye to it. Am not bothered, it happened. Too many people bothered about things that most effected by it dont give a rats arse thesedays. Political posturing and no inquiry has been granted and i am pleased that money wont be wasted on it.
