Our form is more about injuries and an inability to sign players rather than the manager. Without Soure, another quality striker, that better midfielder we should have signed and the loss of left footed Bolasie, we are light all over the field. Not starting Townsend and dropping Delaney was a predictable mistake yesterday but Dann has to get match fit and Townsend is throwing his dummy out about playing on the left.

The recruitment points are well made, its seems we can only attract players who have been rejected elsewhere. No big names who are at the top of their game would even consider Palace as a club to progress their career. Just look at Jack Wilshire, he lived in London and yet he preferred Bournemouth to CP for a loan deal. That must point to how we handle these matters. The current game plan is not working and yet we have spent more money than ever on new players none of who have really delivered to date. may be Pardew is not entirely to blame but I guess he selects the players he wants and those he wants to sell, so he has to be a large part of the problem!

My whole point is that Pardew is not to blame for everything, he doesn't run the club, times have changed in the modern era. Yes, he will have a say in who comes in, but we need someone to have the time and knowhow to identify the players to fit what we need. A good example is Oriol Romeu picked up by Southampton for £5m, fantastic player who could of replaced Jedinak, was in Chelsea reserves then out on loan. Our whole selection process needs investment, we have got to the stage, where we cannot just put youngsters in, the league is too tough. As, I have said before, unless things change in the infrastructure getting a different manager will not solve the issue.

He spoke to both Pardew and Howe and was impressed by both.He felt he just needed to move away from London and now lives in an apartment in Poole with excellent views !

Sorry that is not right, the Manager has to responsible for on field results and the quality of the players that he brings in. We have this obsession with strikers and yet the first priority has to be to stop people scoring it is only then that you have to score to win and we can do neither at the moment!

Think about it, this is a £120m business, do you really think it all hinges on the manager. That appears a very simplistic view.

The Op started with a sensible question and like most threads on here it's turned into a slag off Pardew thread. I do think the team were very fit when Pulis was in charge and I guess that good fitness would have only deteriorated over time if our fitness training is inadequate. Reduced fitness would affect all aspects of our play and may be a significant factor. I think we have discussed some valid concerns about Pardew but no-one seems to think the players have to take some responsibility. For me the senior players need to get a grip of things.

We can try and do it with the players we have, or we could all try and stump up 300m to buy them in.

The fundamental problem with the OP's argument is that we've not played two 33 games seasons since he arrived. If that were how seasons were judged Villa, Sunderland, Swansea, Everton, Southampton, and West Ham would have gone down over the last couple of seasons. His team has played all or part of three seasons. His record the first season: P18; W10; D1; L7. We went from 18th to 10th. So, since he's been here we have survived another two seasons (in of itself that's almost as good as Coppell), and got us to an FA Cup Final (matching Coppell), and has us looking fairly comfortable in mid table playing some decent football. That makes him, right now, the second best manager in the entire 111 year history of the club. So, all in all, not too shabby. He's made some mistakes, but the squad we have now is younger and much better than the one he inherited. Given where we have come from (in my lifetime we've really been a second division team and our infrastructure is still largely reminiscent of that level of club) what he has managed is pretty darn good. People seem upset that he is cocky and arrogant (so what?), that he sold fan favourites (with the exception of Murray, he's been spot on in terms of who had to go and the timing), and that he's a streaky manager (again so what?). Other criticism relates to him being tactically poor (judging the results of the three full/part seasons he has been with us he has done well (and the pundits talk about how tactically astute he is)), or that he struggles to motivate the players (again the results seem to belie that, as do pundit comments and press reports). So, people are talking about getting rid of our second best ever manager for the sin, in essence, of not consistently challenging for the top 8, or that they just don't like him. Because that is what much of this thread boils down to. Madness.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |
