where is the agent in this? WZ just walks over to the manager in training, "hey i want to leave." who does business like that? shouldn't the agent actually ask to speak with the chairman? negotiate a bit first? seems pretty immature to me. let the money men handle the money. keep your head on straight at training and do your job.

I guess my problem also with this whole saga is that Wilf and others in the Squad keeping seeing players of a similar quality coming into the club on bigger deals,Management and the board are naïve if they think agents stick to confidentiality agreements. Can't agree with you on this one - Wilf, for all his talent, has not yet shown he's in the same class as Cabaye, Townsend or Benteke. If he's a relative pauper by their standards, then perhaps a pay rise is legitimate but he simply isn't worth the same as these players.

Stats only tell part of the story. I was surprised that Wilf's stats were as poor as they were but given the second half of the season maybe I shouldn't have. Wilf is often doubled and even trebled up on at times, this creates space for other players. He is far from the finished article but at the going rate he should be paid more - though not as much as he thinks. This is a good thing (for others) but if Wilf can't get the ball to them, space is irrelevant. Too many times I've seen Wilf get corralled into a corner or try one too many tricks, lose the ball and those players in space have to track back. Every now and then I'd like to see him beat a man and play the apparently easy ball, then run into his own space for the return - or to drag players away from Wickham/Benteke or whoever's up front. I love Wilf, but he can be a frustrating and petulant player.

The agent's sitting on Wilf's shoulder whispering in his ear having previously been talking with Spurs. You're right, this isn't the way for possible transfers to be broached but sadly it's not uncommon now. To be fair to Wilf, AP's version was that he asked for permission to speak to Spurs - not quite the same as your version.

Busby's reasoning is bang on. Can't argue with it.

It's interesting that despite the fact that no-one actually knows the circumstances behind the bid everyone has decided that Zaha is so stupid that he can't possibly have decided on his own that he would like to play for Spurs so it must be the fault of the evil agent

"you work your tail off and perform on the pitch. i'll be behind the scenes getting you a raise. maybe even switch clubs if the situation is right. but don't worry about that now - that's my job. you just do the business on the pitch and i'll take care of it. if anyone asks you anything, you tell them you love your club and playing for the fellows on the team and that's your focus. capiche?" sports agents are so short-sited.

Salaries should be kept private by each individual which I am sure that they are. Wilf is 23 and according to sources is on a basic salary of £35k per week. There will be goals scored, win bonuses, and position in the league to add on to that, as well as appearance money. There will be a signing on fee pre-season, and a guess would be around the £500k mark. Sponsorship etc. Who on here earns that a week? do footballers save lifes....No. They should be thankful for the salary that they get. I worked in a bank for years and can tell you what some players were earning on a weekly basis, it's mind blowing and thats for a average player.

Parish needs to step up the wages you can't pay Zaha 35k a week and Adebayor 100k?. Pardew has history of taking the flak for this kind of thing with Ashley.

You're right. I am poorly educated with merely an honours degree in p***.graphy and happen to have fallen on my feet in a job that earns me a regular five figure salary. It is higher than I'm (probably) worth, but I will take it while I can get it. I could move elsewhere and I do have my 'head turned' now and again. The issue for me is the same issue for Wilf - I could move for money, but the grass isn't always greener. Where I am now the people know me and love me ( read tolerate), but a new company could work out badly for me and see my career trough!
So I manage a Workshop which provides a safe learning environment for blokes struggling with PTSD and other mental health issues. Being a Palace fan isn't listed yet. |

I think you should go for a change, P S Strutt. You sound like you're in a bit of a rut. I recently changed jobs from somewhere I was completely in my comfort zone and was terrified of moving. But it worked out really well. They didn't love me where I used to work and they don't love me where I now work, but that's not all that counts. More important to be doing something that's challenging and rewarding and not thinking I don't want to go into work today. I'm not saying that Zaha should move though ha ha ha!
