Sorry but the keeper position is one of HUGE concern. Hennessy is the best we have but he is prone to far too many mistakes. If we have a keeper who can reduce the mistakes by, say, 50% then we will get an additional six points minimum per season.

Whilst Hennessy has had a decent Euro 2016 he has never really been under great pressure and I do not recall one top class save he has had to make. He has been what he is for us, a capable but not great goalkeeper.

Good post. Sums it up for me.

He did make one world class save vs southampton i recall. Think it was from Davis where he clawed it away one handed when the ball was destined for the net. Other than that, more howlers than 'worldies'im afraid.

Hennessey is a very capable keeper but we have been longing for a 'top class' keeper to push on though.

Well if the reports are as good as the picture then no haha. But everything crossed he will make a big difference. Top quality keeper that will install belief in the defence.

He could have done better with a few free-kicks that went in from distance - but a lot of keepers at the Euros have been making similar mistakes. The only real howler that cost us points was the Villa one - but you could also argue that it was downright poor that the rest of the team couldn't manage to score against the worst team seen in the Prem for years.

I just hope that we get in players where they are needed and will make a difference - such as a new centre-half, and at least one good striker. It will also be interesting to see what happens with our current 3 keepers if Mandanda arrives - noone is going to pay any money for McCarthy or Speroni, so I presume that WH will be sold (to Everton possibly) and we'll be left again with 2 poor back-up keepers.

wouldn't call either of those poor. Speroni is aging but could still step in and do a decent job. I still think McCarthy was unlucky last season and could still turn out to be a top goalie. That slip which saw him dropped the second time was most unfortunate and it was even a little harsh to not give him another game after, as he looked good apart from the slip.

I'd hope that we aren't paying 2m Euros for a player that is available on a free?

He has the option for another year, we're buying him out of that option.

Same as Everton did when they bought Gareth Barry from Man City etc.
