Couple of things to say about Mr Jones/Bowie. I wasn't that into him as a lad but the brother of a girl I went out while at Croydon College was mad on him and really turned me on to his music. We went to see him play at Wembley Arena in '83 on the Serious Moonlight tour which was amazing. Also, as a South London boy Bowie was reputed to like Palace and this pic popped up on facebook today:
I like some of his songs but i'm not a massive fan,he discovered Luther Vandross and took him round the world with him on tour and Luther also sang background vocals on Bowie's young americans album. RIP. FYP posted this earlier

DAVID BOWIE: I went to buy some shoes - and I came back with Life On Mars For this CD compilation I've selected 12 of my songs that I don't seem to tire of. Few of them are well known, but many of them are still sung at my concerts. Usually by me. I'll start off with the hit. Some Are Images of the failed Napoleonic force stumbling back through Smolensk. Finding the unburied corpses of their comrades left from their original advance on Moscow. Or possibly a snowman with a carrot for a nose; a crumpled Crystal Palace Football Club admission ticket at his feet. A Weltschmerz [world weariness] indeed.

One of the gaffs he lived in Beckingham was a split house/shared garden jobby which he shared with my (sort of) cousin and her mum. He wrote her a song called Good Night Siobhan. It probably took him all of 5 mins but he wrote down the lyrics and played it for her. Nobody thought to keep it
