If it was an act of terrorism, then I will revisit the Muslim peaceful religion thread, and figuratively speaking, show my arse and stick two fingers up at all the apologists.

Seems the most likely to me - I can't fathom how else a suicidal person could choose to take 150 people with him. But then, if you've got a plane under your control and aim to commit maximum loss of life, wouldn't you point it at the nearest town?

The whole thing is just mind-boggling

Whoever has leaked the info to the press is out of order.

Everyone now presumes it was the newer pilot and that there was intent, when it should be quite easy to give factual reasons with a bit more investigation.

..there is no situation where a pilot is locked out of his own seat though!

An expert on TV was showing that the lock can be overridden from the cockpit to stop it being opened with the code

So perhaps the pilot had gone to the toilet & the co-pilot held the switch down so he couldn't get back in

As I understand it's there in case of terrorists forcing the pilot to open the door

Surely this must be a terrorist attack,Andres Lubitz was the co-pilot and German national.

this is truly horrific,i'd like to know Lubitz religious background

Would be very surprised if this is terrorism. Surely a group would have admitted responsibility by now. This sounds more like someone who was very mentally unwell, with some sort of God complex who wanted to die famous. So sad. Makes me feel physically sick.

An Egyptian airline did this over the coast of New England a few years back.

He may have no religious nor political affiliation but still is an act of terrorism in all but name. Like Breivik kinda.

Its not usually the act of a rational mind, suicide, and its not like people who've decided to kill themselves place a very high value on life.

Also, sometimes the urge for 'die' comes on rapidly in some suicide cases, resulting in often dramatic and bizarre attempts, driven more by the moment, than by planning (Infact most public suicides tend to be impulsive, rather than reflectively planned attempts).

That said, releasing a statement prior to completing a full air crash investigation seems a bit rash.

Not really sure you can call it terrorism if it doesn't have a political or socio-political agenda. Breivik was very much politically motivated, even if he was a mental case, by far right and neo-Nazi ideology. In Breviks mind, he was 'fighting a liberal leftwing conspiracy', and he left a rambling, manifesto

Terrorism is effectively an attempt to exert political influence through the use of violence and fear of violence.

Very sad and shocking.

Isn't there a theory that the missing MH370 is also pilot suicide?

Yep, one of them had a flight simulator at his house so it was a strong line of suspicion.
