In terms of delivering as a chancellor, the only measure he can be seen to have been a success is on jobs. Total and utter bilge, the likes of which we heard from Miliband after the Budget. I could trot out a load of statistics which would bore all and sundry on here so I shall refrain from doing so. All I will say is that it has been a terrific success story but of course there is more to be done. Ummmm except you just did "get embroiled in a political debate". And you're still wrong. I'm not judging George Osborne on anything other than his own targets and his own guidance. And the only measure he can point to as a success on that basis is job creation. Everything else he has massively missed his own targets/expectations. Like I said, you don't have to think he is culpable for that. Feel free to think he has done a splendid job based upon horrific conditions and the Eurozone collapsing around him. But by his own criteria - set out when he had been in office for several months - he has failed to live up to expectations. And for the record I won't be voting (and haven't ever voted) for Labour at a general election. You could judge Osborne by how he has performed versus the previous Labour chancellors and conclude that he has managed to clear up a lot of their mess. I note you distance yourself from Labour, and by deduction you won't be voting Tory I guess? Who are you voting for?

Osbourne pretty much went for a no-frills Budget, and I think that's probably a good idea since the economic figures are speaking for themselves. Things are looking up, we're performing better than pretty much anyone else in the advanced economy (especially the ones who adopted more leftist economics) and the Labour pairing is calamitous in comparison to Osborne/Cameron. On the economy, Tories win. It's as simple as that. Labour need to change the narrative (which they're trying to do by making it all about the NHS) in order to win. well the USA went for Keynes and they are the doing the best and Keynes was left The Tories have gone for a low wage economy based on a spurt from immigration while denying immigration is good. And fuel has fallen giving a massive boost which has nothing to do with Georgie. So I think you have jumped over the "question what you read" warning. Still blind is beautiful if you love the dark.

Over half of the people in poverty are in work - that is an astonishing statistic. It's all well and good creating more jobs than the rest of the EU, but what's the point if people are still unable to pay for living essentials? Depends on your definition of Poverty...I guess those in the Sudan would love to be as impoverished as those wailing about it here. Its a bit like the who the bigger club argument...until there is an accepted definition of the term which negates flat screen tv's and iPhones there'll be no real movement on the issue. That's a facile argument. Aren't flatscreen tellys the norm? Headline if Lyons becomes pm. Do you have any actual contact with people on the breadline? Edited by nickgusset (20 Mar 2015 7.57pm) They are....but thats the point. Poverty should mean you cant afford a tv! I think that was a big 'woosh' moment for you there Nick. Working for a council as I do...everyday. You should see the number of people coming to the housing dept who all have the iPhone6; latest trainers; buggies smoke like chimneys and plead 'poverty'

At the end of the day they will give put £4 in your front pocket and take £5 out your back, irrespective who is in charge. The increase of PA to 10,800 is great but this will only increase to 11,000 next year. When does this come into effect? 5th April 2016 and 5th April 2017.
That said its not that good then: Now 10,000
In 2009/10 under Labour, the allowance was £6475. Yes but the Tories put VAT up to 20% so if you spend that £1k to live on anything beyond subsistence you are still losing out. Lets not forget that VAT hits poor people or less well off harder and that is one of the first things the Tories whacked up. We have been paying Georges 20% VAT increase for 4 years so the little drop in income tax is a bit of a joke really if you think about it, unless you are rich - or not so well off and easily led - and eat the right wing press propaganda for breakfast, dinner and tea ...did I just hear you burp Hoofy?
VAT is the only way to get tax from Gypsy's and dodgy builders that pay no income tax or NI. Did I just hear you talking out of your arse again Berty?

Honestly, I'd love to say "what a witty response" and when you manage I will, I promise. Really, I will. In the meantime P**s of* back to your Beans and Cornbread. Because that's the height of wit. Beyond loftily dismissing everyone else as blinded by propaganda (when, by the way, will you be revealing to us the source of the wisdom you profess to have but seldom display?) you steer clear of actual debate and have very little to contribute. I wonder whether you are as well-endowed with critical faculties as you like to think you are.
