Apps and Goals Comparison in the Championship:

Rudy G 2014-2015 - 13 Apps - 8 Goals
Cameron J 2014-2015 - 22 Apps - 13 Goals
Glen M 2011-2012 - 42 Apps - 30 Goals

Do we really need this guy?

Is he better than what we had? Is he better than what we have?

Personally I don't think so.

It appears that Alan Pardew thinks that we do need him and that he is better than what we already have otherwise we wouldn't be spending so much money to get him

This is an old article, but am posting it because it looks like Gestede is a good personailty, and eager to keep on learning. And at 6ft 4" he certainly has presence. Could be a great buy

SSN say Blackburn rejected our bid last week. If their demanding at least 6 million, then we should look elsewhere.

Why didn't you use Glen Murray's stats for Reading this season? Would have been a better comparison no?

Murray 2014-2015 - 18 games - 8 goals
Rudy G 2014-2015 - 13 Apps - 8 Goals
Cameron J 2014-2015 - 22 Apps - 13 Goals

On that basis it makes him better than Murray.

Perhaps if you got your head out of the sand and quoted this figure:

Glenn M 2014-2015 18 Apps - 8 goals

Gestede is 5 years younger than Murray, so his form could improve whereas Murray's certainly isn't going to.

Like with gomis tonight, news filtering through that he's spat his dummy out about not being allowed to leave has left a bitter taste. Even if they're desperate to play for us I don't like the thought of a player holding a club to ransom. Gives out a poor message.

Gomis wants to go to a club which can offer him 'Champions League' football.

Good i don't him at Palace,overrated.

But you wanted Defoe!

If you look at age as a factor then my head says take Gestede at £5m / £6m over Gomis at £9m and even over Murray who may be able to finance part of the deal with a move to Reading (£2m - am I clutching?).

Gestede - 26 years old - knows how to battle in the English leagues.
Gomis - 29 years old - doesn't seem to know how to play in English football - could improve.
Murray - 31 years old / recent acl injury - may have some value in the market.

All three are an unknown property in the PL. Can they keep us up? My choice would be to keep Murray and get him to work well up front with Gayle because I am sentimental.

Questions for anyone "ITK", does Gestede do the running like Cameron did for us last season?

He actually scored one of Cardiff's penalties against in the League Cup semi final a few years ago to deny us a place at Wembley.

Quoted directly from the MOTD interview with Gary "Errol Flynn" Lineker. Seemed like he was surprised by this as though it is something new.

I figured Murray's stats from this season would be slightly unfair as it was mainly an exercise in him regaining match fitness.

I take the point about the age difference. However, if Blackburn are rejecting bids of 6 Million I don't think it represents good value. I would much rather see Murray given some time this season and look for a better option in the Summer.

Murray came back from his injury about a year ago, he had pre season as well, so his fitness isn't the issue.

You, I and the press don't what and how much any bid was, if indeed one was made, so if I were you I wouldn't rely too heavily on the papers. If, as you wish Murray's given a chance and doesn't score enough/any goals and we get relegated, would that, in retrospect have been a good decision?

If we get another striker in, my view is that Murray will be sold.
