Pensions in the public sector form part of pay and conditions, they are not an extra. Anyone who thinks that fireman (or anyone) want to strike is delusional. Striking is last resort. Totally agree. I am now 58 and have worked in the public sector since I was 16. I will retire at 60 but not get my State pension until I am 66! My "gold-plated" Public Sector pension will be approx 18k for 44 years service. Before anyone says "how generous" it is only going to be 18k due to me working most weekends, Xmas Day/Boxing Day, NY Day and Easter, for the last 2 years. People should not believe all they read in the media about Public Sector pensions.

Bus exploded outside my Dad's office today in Wallington. Police immediately took control of the situation, created a 500 metre cordon and worked to allow Firefighters an easy route in. Firefighters immediately tackled the blaze up close. Paramedics came and sat on standby ready to get involved if this situation called on it. f*** the government, stop trying to rob front line emergency service pensions. Edited by Kingvagabond (04 Nov 2014 5.00pm)
Factsheet, not rumour. Erm read your (incredibly biased) fact sheet again. It is. They are forcing people on the 1992 scheme to change to the 2015 scheme despite a ringfenced agreement that this would not take place. Essentially they are robbing firefighters pensions.
They're not robbing them, as you've said twice, they're making them (slightly more) viable and it only affects future, not past, contributions. Edited by Stuk (05 Nov 2014 1.56pm) And people joined under the auspices of the previous agreement and ergo they are being robbed of the pension that was agreed. Keep up Stuk. Same for the rest of us with the state pension. Nothing is being robbed, we're all just getting it later. It just sounds better to use words like "stealing" or "robbery". Phone the police if you're getting robbed. See what they say.

I have read this thread with interest. Fireman are doing what they are entitled to and that is strike. Personally it is poinleS's. They have to step into line just like the old bill and the ambulance service have had to. What u need to remember is that alot of them like me were promised something when they signeed up and now the goalposts have been moved. Like me in the old bill. I joined in 2000 and was told I would do 30 years and get a decent pension at the end. Now after 15 years I've been told by the government 'actually your going to do another 9 years on top until your 60 and get less than you thought Yes still an ok pension but it wasn't what I signed up for. That's a bitter pill to swallow when you've spent half of your supposed service making plans and thinking you were getting a certain deal. There's no love lost between the old bill and the fire service but I don't blame them for striking which they are entitled to. If the old bill were allowed to strike I would strike tomor row against this government. Theresa May is to the emergency services what Maggie Thatcher is to the miners..... Awful woman. What this one Stuk? Looks like he supports the fireman. He even goes as far as to say he would strike.
