doubt anybody will be bidding for him

Don't understand why you would think this at all. On the contrary, I think there'll be a queue of interested parties once the season is over. He has not done well this year so is likely to be available at a discount (or clubs will think that), his present club (Palace) can be expected to at least be interested in listening to offers, he's a proven scorer at sub-Premiership level and he would be a good fit for a competitive Championship team with some ambition, who wanted an immediate impact striker. I would be very, very surprised if we don't have a number of approaches by top Championship sides interested in signing Gayle this summer.

We might all be eating our words come next season.

I'm going to go on record right now and say we won't.

Way too far behind in basic football intelligence, positional sense, off the ball runs and work rate. If he was 19/20 I'd say he's a prospect. At 24 it's just too late.

Wd snap hands off for 2M.

And I make you right too Stan. The improvement needed is just too vast and he isn't going to do it.

The pill is just too bitter at the moment for others to take.

Fvcking good goal at Villa though.

Jesus, you lot are a miserable bunch of bumsniffers! This has got to be our best season in the Loadsadosh league and all you can do is pick on a player who you possibly watched for an hour all season and then you decide he's no good based on what? Nothing intelligent!

I agree with an earlier comment saying that he certainly appears to have beefed up a bit lately, with a bit more strength I can see him becoming a Jermain Defoe type player who isn't too involved in linking up play but valuable purely for a bit of finesse in front of goal.

Speaking of his tactical awareness, he does seem a bit off but that is something that can be remedied quickly, and I'd argue that he is better than Murray, who seems to have gone back to his old ways of being caught offside too much.

But in all honesty he needs to be playing with a strike partner, or a playmaker in central mifield to play him through.(as IH clearly planned with Campana and Bannan)

He's worth another season, a full pre-season could be just what he needs and if anything he'll probably increase his market value.

2 seasons ago Bristol city were talking this way about yala bolasie and look where he is now.

Gayle would be half decent IF he bulked up a bit and was able to have more of a presence. He's already shown us he can finish.

not expecting fireworks but he's definitely not peaked yet

Some people forget how far he's come in such a short space of time. That improvement won't stop, and TP is looking forward to working on him in pre-season. He's going to be great for us.

It was my dream to play for Palace and to make my debut. I've always played for the club so if I'm playing here, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

I seem to remember Mark Bright - a proven goalscorer in the old Div 2 - taking some months to open his account in the old Div One. Mercifully there was no social media then or he'd surely have been designated "not good enough at this level" by plenty of folk. The glory years of CPFC might have been rather different if Steve Coppell hadn't stuck with him.

I find all the folk urging Gayle's prompt departure, suggesting Murray is not up to it, and reckoning Zaha is a busted flush at Prem level all rather premature in their assertions. I have a little more faith in the Palace coaching staff to bring these folk on (including WZ if he returned.) In DG's case the key thing might be some improvement of his core strength - WZ started flying after a summer of intense physical work.

This club has a track record of nurturing talent stretching back decades...and went seriously into the doldrums when this stopped being the case.

I tend to agree with assessments that we'd make a loss on him now selling for around £2m, but if anything that's why I'd like to see us keep him.

Yeah, he's a bit too old to be seen as a hot prospect but I do think he has more untapped potential (or at least I have my fingers crossed that he might).

I'd rather us risking all the rest of that last £2m we estimate he's worth now, in trying to cultivate him a bit more. The worst that happens is he goes for a free transfer after he turns out to be really pants and we lose the last £2m that we estimate we could get. On the flip side we could find that he really does cut the mustard in the Prem after some hard work and ends up with a £15m price tag on his head. I'm sure most of us would be reasonably happy to see Palace sign a player for £2m that shows a bit of potential so why not risk keeping on one we already have?

I'm joining you on the record and say he will be a very good player in the next couple of years.
