At the end of the day who would want to play out of a generic and stale stadium? Two words I hear too much in sport these days are franchise and business.

All this "spiritual home" stuff about CP park evades the issue of how fans lving South of the park will get there. Getting to Gipsy Hill or Crystal Palace station is a pain in the butt. Selhurst may have its faults but having three stations nearby is a big plus. This is especially important given that so many fans are ex-Croydon or South Norwood. Was wondering when someone would mention the practicalities of getting to games for fans who are no longer super close to the stadium. I currently live in Crawley, get the train from Three Bridge's to Norwood Junction in 30/40 mins. Selhurst Park is in a perfect location (for me) but the need for a stadium revamp is undeniable. There will always be ups and downs of renovating/moving etc. In the long term however, I think the best solution would be to move, too much hassle trying to expand/improve our current stadium with Sainsbury's and the council etc.

We also lose our South London/Croydon identity and become a club from Kent f*** That.
CPP is now within the London Borough of Bromley so it has a BR postcode, not an SE one. I don't think it matters a jot mind you, and it still has a London telephone number (020. Edited by SloveniaDave (22 Apr 2014 9.29pm) which is why penge has a SE20 postcode crystal palace park road has an se26 postcode and anerley has an se19 post code all surrounding the bromley side?

Did read a while back that cp park idea is dead and buried and we were looking at redeveloping sp with a school behind main stand and sainsburys involved to, i for one would like to stay at selhurst as im one of the 16 per cent and with lots coming from south of coulsdon and sutton way i would say about a good third to half of all support comes from croydon and surrounding areas, i would like a villa park type stadia like eastender, four different style stands2,3 and 4 tiers, but as i said, think we are staying so should get used to it!

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand! My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that I am right. (Member of the School of Optimism 1969-2016 inclusive) |

Yes. However, most of the park (including the stadium) is SE19, with most of the rest SE20 or SE26. Why it is divided, I have no idea. None of it has a BR postcode. And I don't see what difference it makes. It's South London which ever way you spin it.

BORING FACT ALERT Postal addresses/post codes around London date back to the 1930s. At that time, Orpington was truly in Kent. The nearby Borough of Beckenham straddled the border, with Beckenham being in Kent and Penge being in London. In 1965, the Greater London Area was defined by law, and a number of Outer London Boroughs were formed in areas that had previously been parts of Kent, Surrey and Essex - and the whole of Middlesex got swallowed up. The London Borough of Bromley was one of the new boroughs. Politically it is part of London, but it's postal addresses are still in Kent - except for Penge/Crystal Palace. Check it out:

My own view, Crystal Palace park would be a good site. Plenty of room to build the stadium on the current footprint. 2 stations right by the park, with another 3 or 4 in walking distance. Services from Victoria, London Bridge, Norwood Junction & West Croydon, London Overground, plus lots of services further south, changing at Norwood junction for Penge West or CP. And a bus station right on the park, servicing about 10 routes. However, as a former SE19 resident, I'm afraid it's just not going to happen. The local residents association will object on every possible ground and the onus would be on Palace to disprove them, or find solutions to them, costing lots of time and money. Frankly, I think it's a non-starter. And in the absence of any other suitable sites (to my knowledge), development of SP is the only option.

small] Wisbech! I did a poll on the BBS 823 fan's responded to where they live. Just 16% live in Croydon. Edited by Halfwayline (22 Apr 2014 7.38pm) Quote That is an astonishingly small %. It begs the question of whether the club is drawing in support from the local community or is simply relying on next generation of exist g supporters. If we rely on people travelling a long way then any stadium must be close to a mainline station or major road junction.
But that % of local support has to grow or the clubs long term future is very bleak.
I remember on years ago on the BBS, I think it was but the guy who used to write the palace echo he said that the majority of people that ordered things from his website were from SE19, CR0 and BR something.

I hope to God we stay at Selhurst, it is our home! Been going for 55 years and driving up from the South Coast, know all the back doubles and best parking places.
