Lets give him 300k a week till 2019, captain and ambassador when he retires, If some crappy mid table side can offer why cant we But seriously he is worth 2 more years, with Premier wages 25/30K with a 50% reduction if we go down.

Sentiment aside,He has imo played as well this season as any previous season..He deserved to be our player of the year on past occasions as I feel his saves kept us in the cahmpionship and were game winners,or point savers on many occasions.Previous goalkeepers I have had the privilege of watching,Nigel Martyn, John Burrige and John Jackson were Palace legends and deservedly so but were no greater servants or goalkeepers during their time at Selhurst than Jules.Sentiment aside,he is an essential member of the squad who we will need next season regardless of which division we end up in.

I will be heartbroken when I hear the news that he has left. He's overtaken Doogie and Clinton as my all time fave player, the word 'legend' gets thrown about far too often, butninthink in years to come we'll still remember our Jules. Maybe though, at this stage if his career, he wants a move, maybe back home, maybe Spain, maybe still in England, who knows. Doesn't mean he's fallen out of love with Palace, just that a players career is a very short one and perhaps he wants a final move to another decent team? Hopefully though we can persuade him to stay and he can finish his playing days here, where he belongs.

if clubs live by the sword ( of sacking players) then they must die by the sword ( or players quitting). This is not a cuddly industry. Get over it.

never been a fan of his he has done well but nowhwere the best we have had and I go back 45 years and we have a £3m keeper waiting now here comes the slaging off
Having said that, he definitely deserves a testimonial. I always thought the Goaly was part of the defence.!!!

Speroni will deteriorate as he gets older and if we stay in the PL, it's important we choose players because of their current ability, not out of nostalgia. He'll go down as one of the Palace greats but I think the end of this season may be a good time for him to bow out and bring in Hennessey as first team keeper for the new season.

Julian Speroni stands for everything that is right about football. Not renewing his contract would be a great shame in my opinion.
IH: "I thought Jonny and Wilf were brilliant but it took a 39 year old master to watch the ball and keep his eye on it to finish it". |
