Yes. If I remember rightly he and Jackson played about half the games each in the 64-65 season after Glazier left. I'm pretty sure Millington was a Welsh international. I was a bit young to notice much about his technique but he was a decent keeper I think.

my first palace game was 76 and think there's a lot of rose tinted stuff on here about the old days. The modern goalkeepers are so much better than those of of this era there is no comparison. Interestingly the likes of Burridge, Clemence and Shilton were barely. 6ft despite their quality. IMO Martyn was the best and Jules isn't far away

The Gordon Banks Pele header save is still the best one I've ever seen. A lot of goalies around then didn't even wear gloves and the balls and pitches a lot more slippy. Plus the fact the opposition were allowed to be a lot more physical in their challenges. To make it to a high level they had to be really really good and if they weren't they were soon found out. Not sure how Jules would have fared back then. Nigel? No problem.

TBH I'm a little too young to remember the likes of Jackson in his prime although I saw him play for Orient against us although I have of course seen the Banks save. My statement was a bit on the bold side when you consider the very best players of the time Take your point about the gloves and mud but also think the modern balls make it difficult and there perhaps wasn't the tendency a few years ago to analyse every goal that's scored. Paul Hammond was in goal for Palace when I first started going. Also agree with comments about Perry Suckling being decent.

I concur with these sentiments. Harking back to the 'Good old days' I recall goalkeepers marking out their areas by using their boots to make a an indentation in the pitch in line with their posts to help them with their positioning.

One afternoon at Stamford Bridge I saw him leap backwards and catch a shot that had gone over his head. It was much better than Banks' save from Pele which was amazing. English goalkeepers back then were head and shoulders above any other nation. Sadly Kermy, Scotland's were amongst the worst.

My first games were when Big Bill was between the sticks but looked to be going. Palace had a very decent John 'Stonewall' Jackson coming through but considered too young and a bit dodgey. So Tony Millington, the Welsh goalie was bought to ease the way. It didn't take Jacko long to push him aside. Palace have had a good line of Welsh 'keepers up to Lewis Price, the best being Vic Rouse who made 257 appearances. But, like Lewis, non have made an impact.

Jules save against watford in the play of final and the save against west brom last weekend, is enough for me to say he is one of if not the best keeper we have had.

Last thought on this goalie thread. Did anyone see Mike Hunt play?
