Anyone else remember in around '82 when The Toon Army came to Selhurst and nearly all of them were wearing tartan - Kilts, the works? Twas an anti-Tory/Thatcher unemployment thing.

With that a small team of Palace fired into them and a right royal ding dong ensued. Before long the Old Bill tried to break them up and both sets of fans turned on the filth. The match was well under way and I found it hard to watch the game as the fight up top was spell binding. I thought that happened in the 70's though? Edited by Hoof Hearted (10 Nov 2013 7.02pm)

18th November 1978 v West Ham away 1-1 Fcuk me that was scary! I went with my ex Mrs and her 2 brothers, one was about 12 and the other was 20 and in the Navy on submarine training. He could handle himself. I was 24 and could stand my corner when the chips were down. We parked up and the younger brother put his scarf on, I asked him if he thought that was wise. On the way to the ground he was spat and we had a few stormy looks, but got to the ground and stood on the terrace in the "chicken run". There were loads of west ham in there and a bunch of lads formed a little posse near us snarling and spoiling for a fight, but calmed down as they went 1-0 up. Palace eventually drew level and all hell broke loose. I felt a kick in the back and turned to face the hooligans who were being driven back by my brother in law, who smacked the fcuk out of them. I got the mrs and her little brother behind me and fended off a few more attacks. We were getting outnumbered so I moved towards the police and complained. One PC who had a cross hammer badge on his tunic said "Don't come here if you can't take it!"........ Nice! We managed to avoid further trouble and got home safely, but I was so proud of my brother in law. He was awesome, but just shrugged it off saying it was nothing compared to a Saturday night in Pompey.

Some great posts, quite a few where I can say I was there was never a main boy but had my moments Orient away West ham turned up and we had some real fun, unfortunately someone had a glass smashed on his head in the pub after and it all went off big time! Qpr away 82 was mental only 19 was one of the 1st on the plastic pitch with Bobby K, I vividly recall Pat T on the roof to our left braces and all urging Palace fans to invade the pitch After the game all round the bush area it was going off everywhere. We got up to all sots of mischief but I wont go into too many details about the Seaweed and Clown scum but lots of fun over the years. Someone mentioned Reading, they came to Selhurst as a newly promoted team loads of chaps up for kicking off.

I was at QPR that day. Upper tier front row. I saw the OB crack a few heads below me. Disgraceful.
