Al Super Al Super Alan Pardew

A legend of sorts. Not for the usual reasons but no fan present in the late 80's will ever forget him.

Big chest and massive boobs

Joe Jackson (Because everyone says so)

You're really Steppin' Out with that suggestion Jamie.

One I don't recall seeing so far - Phil Barber. Probably more Cult Hero than legend but players like him, Dave Madden, Jerry Murphy, John Pemberton (who Joel Ward reminds me of a lot), Mike Elwiss etc. just stay in the memory along with all the stupid memories that remind you of your favourite times watching Palace.

After every defeat we should close Palace Talk and all go and visit Nostalgia Talk for 48 hrs.

You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name.

Edmund Goodman, he was appointed to start club in 1905 and stayed for 30 years until 1935. Edmund acted as Secretary for 35 years and Manager for 18 years, he oversaw our ground moves from Crystal Palace to Herne Hill, then to The Nest and finally to Selhurst. TRUE LEGEND.

Len Chatterton.

Club groundsman for as long as I can remember through the 60's. 70's and 80's.
Probably worked for a basic wage and was as dependable as a Swiss watch. My definition of a Palace legend.

Can't argue with that. Started as a figure of fun really with some truly woeful home performances coming on as sub and he took loads of stick..but worked hard and turned it around to become a real fans favourite. You could always tell anyone who didn't go to away games cos they'd slag him off in home games when he was playing out of his skin away from Selhurst. And there's the winner at Spurs and the winner in the semi as well.Got to be on the list.

Peter Simpson, Jim Cannon, John Jackson.

I think you got it dead right mate. My Dad use to talk endlessly about Peter Simpson to the point where I thought I had seen him actually play. I did see Jim Cannon and John Jackson play many times and they were truly great. I guess every era has its legends so there will be a long list of those to remember.

Seven pages to this thread, what short memories so many have?!!
Can't believe there is not a single mention of a true legend! Rain, shine, even when it snowed and they only cleared the snow from around the lines on the pitch!! This legend covered more ground than anyone!!
The woman with no teeth who spend about three hours walking around the pitch selling bags of peanuts!!

Arthur Waite (Without him, we'd probably still be League 2)
Peter Simpson (Record Goalscoring machine)
Danny Butterfield (LB Perfect Hatrick)
Ian Wright (Non-League to All star, a story even fans of other clubs know).
Jim Cannon (games)
Joe Jackson (Because everyone says so)
Julian Speroni (three times player of the year)
Andy Johnson (magic goalscorer, top english goalscorer in the premiership)
Clinton Morrison (one man goal machine post war top goal scorer).
Nigel Martyn (England Number 1 whilst at the club).
Geoff Thomas (Inspirational legend)
Dougie Freedman (Relegation avoidance, once as player and twice in management).
Coppell (Most successful manager - administration savior).
Ade Adf**kingbadbuy (worst signing).
Razor Deadduck (fattest signing).
Alan Pardew (Makeweight, basis of one legend)

But if we ever built a statue it should be to Arthur Waite

All time legend - Jim 'more games than Milton Bradley' Cannon.

No Vince Hilaire?

Quite right, Vince Hilaire (He's here, he's there, he's every f**king where).

My favourite player as a nipper, I excluded him due to bias!
Big mal anyone?.

There was a chap who played for us just after World War 2 called Arthur Hudgell a never say die defender. He was transferred to Sunderland in the 1947/48 season for ten grand. He joined a Sunderland team that, for the first time in Britain, cost a million quid. Shackleton was their center forward. Arthur played for them for best part of ten years and when he was with us he never put a foot wrong or missed a tackle. He was one of the most complete players I have ever seen and probably one of the best Palace ever had. When Arthur left us I cried for a whole week and he must certainly be one of our legends.

I remember the 'Peanut lady' who used to sell on the Holmesdale terrace. I think her name was Mrs Minchella.
