he was smashed in so much within 30 minutes that sky have completely pulled the market, as have all other bookmakers now. this generally means it is a done deal.

with regards to the doog, if he applied for the managers job then i can see him leaving, if he didn't i'm sure he'll still have a job.

Dougie should go for the vacant Barnet job, where he's also adored, and cut his managerial teeth.

Would want the new man to bring in his own staff.

Part of me agrees with you. However, if it's Eddie Howe, his right-hand man at Bournemouth is Jason Tindall - not bright and not particularly respected by Bournemouth fans despite their recent success!

Still, I guess if it works for Eddie...

Precisely. Wouldn't want anyone being forced on a new manager, something that was forced on Burley.

Would want Howe (should he get it) to be as comfortable as he needs to be here, and that would include bringing in his own staff.

That's not to say Dougie couldn't be a coach, I just think that if he wants to crack management, he's better off starting lower down the ladder and learning his trade. What better place than Barnet? Perfect fit.

I'd be more than happy with that - Barnet are welcome to groom him for us if there's not a place for him here.

I'm worried now - I think I've convinced myself it's going to be Howe and anything else will be a disappointment.

Well, there really is no concrete reason to believe that it's true, judging by some of the ill-informed, speculative bollocks posing as 'inside information' that's been posted here today.

I'd be delighted if he was appointed, though.

I'm well aware it's far from final. Just a wave of optimism getting out of control!

He'd be my choice too, y'know! Not like you to get carried away by unsubstantiated hearsay, old bean!

I know - surely a cynic is entitled to a day off?!

I guess, as some may have noticed, I wasn't entirely happy to see the back of Burley. I feared the worst - Phil Brown or someone of that ilk, so to see Howe so strongly linked has possibly caused me to lose the plot slightly!

Oh, and I've got quite a few mates who are season ticket holders at Bournemouth - that could only add to the fun.

I watch Bournemouth regularly as they are only 10 miles down the road from me and I would be over the moon if Eddie Howe was our next manager, what he has done for Bournemouth on a shoestring is nothing short of a miracle.

Stay out the way of the Southern thing.

You'll hear the hearts breaking from Dorset all the way in South London if you take our hero

I suspect so ForbiddenFruit, he looks like an exceptional manager. To be honest I can't think of many reasons why he would want to leave you at this point in time other than if perhaps he is unhappy with lack of funds? Would your fans ever forgive him if he left? It would be agonizing ..

He really is exceptional as a manager, backed up by the fact that he was pretty special to us as a player too. The fans set up Eddie Share specifically to get him back when we had no money (as usual ). What he's done over the last 2 years when you consider where Jimmy Quinn left us has been nothing short of amazing.

We're hoping that he can see the possibilities of taking us up and, combined with his love for the club, that will keep him with us. Hopefully, Harry, Sean O'Driscoll and Tony Pulis (all ex-managers of ours) will convince him he needs to stay longer too, as they did.

I may be grasping at straws though :-(

I will feel bad for you if he does come here, after the exceptional work he's done for you, I'm sure your lot will be in mourning. But hugely excited for us.

Any murmurings down your way of it being true?

Palace market totally removed..... Phil Brown 1/8 for the Preston job, whilst down at the circus Dennis Wise is 1/4 to be Charlton manager, a match made in heaven.

I guess if Howe is the man, he'll be better positioned than many to get us out of League 1 if he's unable to keep us from the drop.

Much the same as on here, watching what's been going on on the betting sites. He's been linked with every vacant manager's position since POSH last season. This was the one that really worried me when I heard about your sacking. Easy enough for him to do while still living down this way and he's Dorset born and bred. Whatever your current status financially Palace is still a biggish club and if your board can make him enough promises of investment he might just be tempted.

No one will feel your pain like us if its true. Its happened to us so many times with players and managers over the years.
I would be delighted, I touted him from the start. He may well be managing us in league 1 next year as he has a tough tough job here. But I feel with a new young manager and not a has been, a New group of owners whom have genuine belief and enthusiasm we as a club might at last move forward.
I never thought much of GB and said so on many occasions, but I will back this manager from the start and endure the long haul with him as I believe in him.
I base this on his past performance with you, hopefully other palace fans will give him the time he may need.
