In fairness the strategy has limited the extent of initial economic damage compared with other countries... but now it appears that the argument ‘well it worked in Sweden’ is about to be binned. Fastest rising hospital case rate in Europe, and having to rapidly introduce accepted lockdown protocols. Herd immunity eh. Just goes to show if we’d tried that here it would have been catastrophic.

An average of 10 people dying per day in Sweden with covid, none of these are excess to normal deaths at this time of year. So what exactly is the problem? There is no lockdown in Sweden, the latest is to limit people to netting in no more than groups of 8. Tough sanctions, eh?

I feel as if we have been having this same conversation since this all started. What constitutes 'herd immunity' could have its own thread. For example deaths in Sweden continue to be low....so I think the whole argument around 'herd immunity' and how long it lasts isn't settled. Still, I'm doing it again....Government policy on this virus is set and it's all been said....so it's all kind of pointless.

Maybe herd immunity is the wrong discussion point, and therefore yes it probably should have its own thread when we actually know how long any infection based immunity really lasts for. Swap that out for ‘strategy’ and the point is relevant - essentially all those saying Sweden nailed it are being proved incorrect, although arguably in the first instance the strategy has lessened the overall negative effect on their economy and general livelihood, so it’s not as simple as did / didn’t. But it’s certainly not the gold standard that some have held it up to be.

Edited by Mapletree (16 Nov 2020 10.21pm) Don’t worry, it will be all over the news outlets in the coming hours. Significant u-turn by Swedens Government & Prime Minister as restrictions are introduced to tackle a soaring infection rate and hospital admission rate.

Always try to read information from as many different viewpoints as possible. ‘Left’, ‘Right’, ‘Centre’ and, yes, Moron.

Also what the hell is Hancock. ‘Nurture the Flame of the Candle of Hope’ and referring to his colleague as ‘JVT’ Complete helmet. Be sincere and professional, rather than inexplicably acting like some sort of 40 year old teenager Probably excited that he’s managed to secure 5m doses of the moderna vaccine just before doing that conference - ‘You said 500m doses JVT, I think you meant 505m doses’ f*** off mate. "While Pfizer’s vaccine requires ultracold freezing between -70C and -80C from production facility to patient, Moderna said it had improved the shelf life and stability of its own vaccine, meaning that it can be stored at standard refrigeration temperatures of 2C to 8C for 30 days. It can be stored for six months at -20C for shipping and long-term storage, the company said." Good news. Should ensure that it'll eventually be available to more people.
