I'm sure there is some thought on this long covid being what is being or trying to be prevented with our current and possible future restrictions. No doubt. And these are clearly outliers to an extent but spread across the population it could still be a significant number of previously healthy people lumbered with longterm health issues. Of course most healthy and young people are fine though; this lot were just s*** out of luck.

Sweden clearly played it well, and consequently have had less damage done to their economy. At the same time their single occupancy household quirk is useful to have at a time like this. Interestingly though their daily case numbers has gone up considerably over the past coupe of weeks. If this follows that of other nations we can certainly expect to see them back at 100+ deaths a day in a month or two unless they change tack. Their call though of course. I expect they'll bring in more restrictions rather than a full lockdown. Time will tell. [Link]

Only 20% of our GDP and 1000s of welfare claimants.

It sounds similar to myalgic encephalomyelitis (CFS). Which is also caused by viral infections, amongst other things. Or 'yuppie 'flu' as it was known in the day. Yes, it’s a post viral syndrome that can occur with many viruses. I had glandular fever at age 21 (which incidentally is a similarly highly contagious virus) that affected me particularly badly. I still get milder symptoms even now some 35 years later whenever I pick up a bad cold. The additional health issues caused by long covid as it is being referred to are not new and not unexpected. I am actually heartened by the fact that it is being shown it affects only a small percentage of those who have had Covid.

Nicola Sturgeon.
Most people consider that she has done a good job (with the UK taxpayers money). However this time she may well get criticised. Scotland introduced new restrictions weeks before our 2nd lockdown but they haven't worked and it now looks like she will have to put Scotland into lockdown like England, something she wanted to avoid. Meanwhile Boris needs to remind the people of Scotland that if they were independent they would not be getting billions of UK taxpayer monies so they might want to think of that next time they listen to the siren voices of the SNP.

She hasn’t been universally praised, particularly for leaving Glasgow in the same tier as other regions with far lower rates of infection - the feeling is that Glasgow is treated differently being a strong SNP area.

Welcome to the world with no pubs. We can all sit around with our one half litre glass of Peroni between ten of us, down our trendy outdoor cafe in the rain, and thank our lucky stars we got through this.

If a vaccine is found another virus will replace covid19. It is nature's reply to man-kinds destruction, and as we are not going to learn any lessons from it, we will simply carry on dying through natural selection. Why does everybody yearn for an end to locking up etc? To get back to the capitalist system of greed selfishness materialism and excessive polluting consumption. At the end of the current round the USA system of meat production, for example, will be even less safe than before with checks being removed for profit.

Good news. If all or most of the stage 3 vaccines are similarly successful it may allow them to achieve wider coverage of at risk groups faster. That would bode well and might tip Bojo's ever changing mind towards 'get on with it' mode for the rest of society.

Why does everyone yearn for an end to locking up? Why do prisons exist?
