Starmer committing 3 billion to Ukraine a year when it looks highly likely that the war with Russia will soon be negotiated looks pretty foolish. Starmer, always bends with the wind, when it suited him to support Corbyn he supported him...calling him a friend but when it suited him to boot him out of the party he did. As Nato at the moment are led by those determined to use resources to confront Russia rather than negotiate he falls in line with whatever is expected with him. However, just like his judgement of locking down harder and longer on Covid was poor this judgement seems similarly poor. So I predict that with a Trump administration he'll bend with the wind again and this 3 billion he's committing will suddenly not happen once Trump enters the White House and policy towards Ukraine changes. All of a sudden the rhetoric will change to one which sees sense in negotiation....which will be a far worse deal than Russia offered in 2022.....but he and Nato in general will still claim victory because otherwise they have to admit to wildly bad judgement. This is the wrong thread but if a negotiated “settlement” is forced on Ukraine that looks worse than the terms that are claimed, without evidence, to have been available 2 years ago it is hugely disingenuous to suggest that either Ukraine, or the West would now be better off than in deciding to support Ukraine. Allowing Russia to take all the land east of the Dnipro without much of a fight, could easily have just allowed them to build facilities there ready for the next push west, with their resources intact. Now they have suffered big losses and know that they will be challenged by superior technology every time they make a move. It may not stop them for ever, but it gives Putin something to think about and the people to get restless about. Of course it can still go belly up if Trump gives NATO the boot and hands the keys of Kyiv to Putin. Yet some here still defend Trump!

I'd just like to mention something irritating that you see in a lot of media about President Trump and that's that they call him 'former president' Trump. Once a president you are always called a president, well you should be. They don't call Obama, 'former president' or Carter 'former president'. You don't see them referring to Clinton as 'former president Clinton'. They just seem to be doing it out of childishness. Edited by Stirlingsays (17 Jul 2024 4.25pm)

Biden has Covid! At the risk of appearing to be a conspiracy theorist could this be the smoke screen behind which he will hide his withdrawal? Adam Schiff has publicly called for him to stand down today. That’s the biggest voice so far calling for him to go and will be very hard to ignore. Tactically smart too, as it will take some of the attention away from aTrump.

Fully vaccinated catches covid three times. I suspect it lowers the immune system.....just my opinion, hope I'm wrong. I think most younger people never needed the damn thing. Never took any and caught covid just the once. I haven't really been ill from anything since.
