Today he was at Chelseas training ground in Cobham assessing the ref in a Chelsea U23s game. He was sitting in the small stand they have at the main pitch there and a light skinned black lad (my old man said probably late teens/early 20s) sitting a few rows I front. As the players were warming up one of the them came over and said to this lad 'Are you going to Palace then'... This lad said Yes.. He was then asked when does he go and he replied 'tomorrow'.. Now my Dad is useless with names but from the description I'm thinking it could possibly be Colwill??.. I guess we will see!! I can't reveal my source but I'm reliably told both Colwill and RLC are staunch royalists so maybe they've just had an invite to see Ma'am over at Buckingham Palace. Seriously though, that's an interesting update. I'd be happy with either coming.

Really feel we need another industrious box to box midfielder with an extra touch of quality. We have a lot of midfielders who add 'depth' to the squad, who can offer a decent contribution when called upon. But we need a bona-fide 'starter', who is without question a tier above in terms of quality. And ideally left-footed. Basically a Jimmy Mac or Gallagher replacement. I appreciate these players are expensive and hard to find, but unless we get one, we are slightly inferior to last season's squad, unless the younger players are better versions of themselves this year.

In recent years we have been used to bringing in players past their peak who can only go one way and that's decline. Our new philosophy sees us bringing in youngsters who have the capacity to improve. Last year's young recruits to the first team should be better this year. It will be interesting to see to what extent, Guehi, Olise, Mitchell, Edouard and Mateta progress this year, none of whom (hopefully) are yet at their peak. With Ebiowei, Richards and Doucoure now on board, the future is looking brighter than ikt has for many a year. Having said all that, yes we do need a new first team midfielder to play alongside Eze and Doucoure.

With regard to the midfield area which we still need to re-enforce i think we will string it out as long as possible to find out the situation with Conor. If he becomes available we will be in there like a shot

If we could have the RLC from his previous loan with us, I'd take him in a heartbeat. But I'm not sure that player is in there anymore.

He worked well for us because of the relationship he had with Wilf. Little 1 touch lay offs, and keeping the ball moving. he also played a fair amount for Chelsea last season, so he cant have lost it

Everyone keeps saying this. But in reality Gallaher was a bit of a one off. If money was no object, who is the like for like Gallagher replacement?

I don't really understand RLC on loan. He's supposed to be on £150k+ per week and Chelsea always get a loan fee. Suppose you pay £3m loan fee and cover his wages, that's almost £11m for the season. Take Gibbs-White as a hypothetical. You sign him for £30m and he's on £70k per week wages for 5 years. On the books, that costs the club £9.5m for the year. Yes that is £9.5m per year for 5 years but at least you own the player and can sell him on. Loaning such an expensive player, especially one with his injury history, doesn't seem to fit with our model. At least with Gallagher, his wages and loan fee would have been probably half of RLC. Unless Chelsea are going to heavily subsidise his wages or put in clauses around injuries, neither of which I can really see happening, it just doesn't make sense to me.

I know injuries are a concern, but RLC has made over 70 appearances in the last two seasons. He also played on the left of midfield with us, is big, and in the bits I saw of him with Chelsea last season looks like he still has quality. Tuchel doesn't strike me as someone who would put up with anyone not willing to fully commit so the fact he made 40 appearances last season also tells me he has the right attitude. It seems more likely than some rumours given Parish actually said publicly at the end of last season that he'd happily have Gallagher or RLC back at Palace if he could. Regarding his wages, a number of sources seem to indicate he's actually on £60k per week, such as this one [Link] Clearly £150k pw is too much for us if that is what he is on, but if he accepted 80k per week or less than that would not be much higher than many of our squad and less than some. With two-years left on his Chelsea deal maybe there is scope for a loan with an option to buy in 12 months time? I would be more than happy with that.
