I find it quite ironic how much hate there is for Boris, Putin, Trump and historical figures such as Churchill, yet Stalin is ignored.
Stalin used to personally read through the lists of who was to be executed or sent to the Gulag - he literally signed off on every one himself. Absolute madness. Responsible for 10s of millions of deaths, yet Trump is a worse bogeyman.

Or indeed mau. The Chairman was said to have murdered more than hitler and stalin combined

Rise of communism docs are rarer but I have no recollection of one shown in a positive light (and I am not talking about eisenstein films).

On the other hand anything I have seen about the fall of the romanovs tends to be viewed sympathetically despite the fact that they ruled over an appalling brutal and oppressive regime that gave birth to the bolsheviks. Media may be left but it retains a paradoxical love of royalty.

During the Cold War there were loads of documentaries, including from the BBC, about Lenin/ Stalin etc and how evil they were. I don't recall one on Mao but there could have been.
There's a current Netflix Romanov thing, I believe. Rasputin seems like such fun.
I agree they show the Royal things.
Overall though, you get the impression that they decide 'what's best for us' in a rather perverse 'Auntie Beeb' kind of way. And what's best for us is usually trying to tell us how to think. It is far from unbiased - and the more I think about it, it has never been unbiased.

Probably about right but the prevalence of rise of nazism over rise of bolsheviks has as much to do with the number of Jews in the media as much as its political leaning... and I would recommend not going there!

Spicy....but probably correct.

I agree.....I think with the Romanovs you have a typical monarchy of their time. The course of WW1 did for them along with bad luck and poor decisions.

I think most of the sympathy comes from their brutal murder by the Bolsheviks, which marked out how they proceeded......They could have exiled them...or at least the children, but instead they acted like monsters.....which those 'useful idiots' who had believed Lenin and his crew and helped them come to power soon found out...as we see with, the Kronstadt rebellion and its aftermath.

The BBC neutrally reporting what appears to be a soft form of mental child abuse via far left ideological talking points.

Yeah, in the past it was far more even.....but the cold war was nearly thirty years ago....I think it ended in 91.

Couldn't agree more with your summary of the BBC....as a former journalist of theirs says...it sees itself as the 'Noble Liar'.

It doesn't present the world warts and all it presents the world as it wishes the world to be seen......Which is the same as everyone else of course.

But the BBC is publicly funded and thinks its take is morally right.

Well, I don't agree with it and I should have a far easier and less disruptive way of not paying for it.

In the past, the BBC was generally the main source of news and information, both through TV (for those that had it in earlier days) and the radio, which was the more extensive medium, coupled with a tendency to believe everything they put out simply because they were the BBC.

With today's multimedia ability to source anything and everything at the pres of a button or two it's so much easier to see any bias from any broadcaster or news agency....... the problem is working out which is closest to the truth!

The fact that BBC (along with the rest of the MSM) has also descended into soundbites and platitudes to it's mainstream audience has also not helped. It's become condescending to it's audience assuming people have no attention span beyond a few minutes (although happy to have an inane 1 hour conversation about Palestinian avocado farmers on radio 4 - because obviously that audience is more "capable" of intelligent thinking).

The success of things like long form podcasts has shown that people have been starved of accurate information and nuanced opinions - they have been crying out for this. The MSM has just become a "liberal" hegemony of low expectations.

Here's a recent (August) savage street attack that you just know that all the liberal networks like the BBC, CNN and co would be covering if the skin colours were reversed.....you would be hearing about 'white supremacy' and 'how could this happen in 2019'.....but instead...the victim is the wrong skin colour.

The guy lives but viewer discretion is advised.
