Indeed, I know it seems like an extreme measure to basically test everybody in a whole region or country at the same time, but it's certainly a way to pinpoint a hell of a lot of cases (including many asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic ones), and isolate the right people rather than everybody. It's possibly a better way of potentially bringing down the numbers while keeping things ticking over than anything we've done.

It’s not just the stereotypical types not giving a fook, it’s also the people in older age groups not being able to stop being friendly. Scousers are like that. Something us down here don’t struggle with. Can’t socialise closely with your neighbours and others? Good, and easy. Shame because I’d prefer it the other way round a bit more. Maybe I should just think neighbours feel weaker in the usual various ways if they don’t keep up their guard and bullsh1t pretence. BBC went full on in the Liverpool Covid wards tonight. I could be wrong but the bloke saying people are stupid for saying it’s a hoax I can imagine hasn’t been careful enough himself.

Interesting points, as I did watch that piece, and considered that as it's not representative. Although I don't believe the death count is inaccurate (not to return to previous discussions!) I do think it's a much better metric to use for people to gain a realistic perspective, than positive case numbers. People getting too caught up in case numbers are not appreciating that testing was almost non existent first time around, and so we're likely not in as bad a situation now despite the coverage. As for the bloke, as you say are people being careful or 'imagining' they're being careful? I know plenty of people who from their description of their behaviour you'd think they were walking around in a hazmat suit, but when you actually get to the bottom of it they've been mingling and out and about as much as they did pre-covid. People can do as they do, but I definitely think some are a lot less careful than they make out.

One thing I’ve noticed a lot is the inability of many people, and unfortunately it’s those who seem to need the most protection and particularly on busses, to wear a mask correctly. I often see older people with masks pulled down below their nose or even worn under the chin. I know masks are awkward, if you wear glasses for example, but everyone else manages.

Nothing good I am afraid. Family bereavement. Really sorry to hear that. I hope all are bearing up and the family are able to celebrate the life of the deceased. A particularly difficult time for this to happen, especially as travel is out of the question.

'Whitty: doing nothing would hit urgent care and then lead to emergency care shortages'. Just noticed this but it is hardly enough to shut a whole country down for, is it?

Yes, the under nose crew are legion. It's a curious one because you'd think that it would dawn on people that they're defeating the point.
