Judging by a number of comments here, there's a section of fans that are content with battling against relegation every season, playing dire, turgid, defensive football. The more talented players will be off, their skill set will no doubt be appreciated elsewhere, and then we will certainly be looking at the drop.
The lack of ambition or desire to better our cause is baffling.

It's not the question of our talented players being off but more to the point of others who are less so letting themselves down by not being able to complete a simple task of passing to someone else three feet away ...and the cost of replacing them all with players of equal ability with the hope that they may actually be able to pass to another who is three feet away.
We are a gamble club, we cannot afford the players who are actually able to pass under pressure for the majority of time because they are all playing for the top six.

regular top ten, 50 pts seasons, aiming to get lucky and have a Wolves/Watford/Burnley season

Watford have done well this season, so have Wolves. Let's see if they can replicate it next season, Burnley couldn't.

Of course I would like to see us further up the League and on a par with Watford and Wolves. Everton and West Ham have spent big and not got there. And we don't have their kind of money.

And I don't think our current squad is good enough to attain a regular top ten finish.

To me, that's the downside of the Premier League. Few clubs have a chance of winning it and for a good number it's all about just hanging in there.

I don't think '' content '' is the right word because I'm sure we all want to see Palace winning games and playing attractive football.

I would like to see a season where we are free from relegation worries and I had hoped it would be this season. But it wasn't - and I don't think the reason for that is just down to the manager.

As for the more talented players leaving....well that's football. If Southampton had been able to retain all the players that they have sold over the last few years they wouldn't be where they are today.

Luck and with it comes confidence, everything you mentioned is exactly right the top teams are written in stone, everyone else is going to have our season better or worse and never knowing when or how.

Top teams decide order by being able to purchase who they like.
Virgil van Dijk and poor Southampton.

Being paid 60k a week and not being able to pass is a bit of a restriction agreed.

That’s an easy one.

Not being in a relegation fight every year.

To be in a relegation fight, you need to be near the relegation places, which we haven’t this year at any point.

So about six points more than we have at the moment, which we would have if we’d had a couple of half decent strikers all season.
What was the point of this thread again?

That is nonsense, as you know.

We have been in the mix for relegation and been in the discussion all year.

If you never thought we were in danger of relegation, fair play to you.

We could have had batistuta out there on Wednesday and we still wouldn’t have scored.

Strikers need service. Service means having a game plan which remotely supports the creation of goal chances.

Benteke was banging the goals in for us before Roy. Apparently Roy wanted Sorloth.

If you really believe that we would be pushing for Europe if only we had better strikers, and that Roy is absolved of all blame for our poor performances this year, then I say good luck to you.

Just read back through the post match comments for this season, game after game fans complaining about reasonable chances missed. You want to ignore everything that’s happened before fine but it makes your position look ridiculous.
