Today is the first time I've had to commute North from where I live rather than South and I have to admit that I actually wasn't aware quite how bad it was. I cannot believe how unsafe that journey is while the strike is going on.

If this is all about safety then Watership Down was all about cows.

You want to see it during the RMT strike and overtime ban. It's ok to compromise safety in a strike about safety when you strike. Like I say, if they went all out until it was resolved safety wouldn't be risked.

Why then did drivers refuse a pay off to return to work?

Wasn't that the Conductors? Like I say, if it was all about safety they'd be all out as they wouldn't want to compromise their obvious principles by making things unsafe when they're on strike.

Well there was an RMT strike and an ASLEF strike today.

So there were more or less no trains today and loads of people worked from home.
When it's just RMT and overtime ban (so every other day) the trains run but there are a lot less, they go to different stations, tend to be shorter (so Southern put fewer carriages on as they think they can get away with blaming the staff for that, I suspect) and a full commute. The net effect is massive overcrowding on both platforms and trains - so an awful lot more danger.
Ironically I arrived at Upper Warlingham on Friday and our 'guard' just stuck his head out of the cab window where the train joined, looked up and down and that was it. Phew, thank goodness for that. I felt a lot safer after seeing that.

There was about a 50% reduction in train service I believe and the trains were rammed. I'm not sure what could be more dangerous, I saw several people almost get trapped in the closing doors. I was pinned between two men who were both pushing against each other and subsequently squashing me between them. My face was so buried in the coat hood of one of the guys I couldn't breath for a while. I dunno, it felt pretty unsafe.

Although I don't know why we need to argue about who has been on the more dangerous train! Just saying the Thameslink trains today didn't indicate to me that anyone had chose to work from home. I've never been so crushed before that I was barely able to breathe that's all. About a third of the people on the platform weren't even allowed to get on our train due to the overcrowding.

Lol - we're not arguing, we're agreeing!!
I think we can both agree that it feels pretty hypocritical that a strike alledged to be on the grounds of safety should make the railways so much more unsafe!

That's cool, I was intending to agree with you and then wasn't sure if I'd made it sound like I was trying to "out-dangerous" you!

I stand corrected but I am not so ignorant to realise this is not just about safety, it is a politically motivated attack on the Government

You were lucky to get a train, we have none at all from Thornton Heath.
