The US Supreme Court rules that cities can enforce bans on homeless people sleeping outdoors in West Coast areas where shelter space is lacking. Based on the US/Israel war in Gaza they will probably be moved to safe areas and bombed.

It’s difficult to know what will happen next, but my hope is that common sense will prevail and a way found around the procedural barriers at the convention so a replacement candidate can be found. Although Biden came out fighting yesterday! It all depends, I suspect, on the next set of opinion polls, but I hope personal pride does not stand in the way of the national and international interests. Because the only thing that really matters is to avoid another 4 years of Trump. I am not sure how the West could survive that intact, let alone how the USA would end up. Imagine having someone re-elected who has tried to avoid the result of a democratic decision, is a convicted felon with the morals of an alley cat and the intellect of a playground bully (calling the Governor of California, Gavin Newscum and thinking it clever). Obama could not serve as VP to Harris as he could not replace her as President, but he could serve as Secretary of State and assume a very high profile role, making it plain both during the campaign and afterwards that this was a deliberate tactic to overcome the restrictions. Something like this needs to happen, so it probably will. It is up to the US electorate who they vote for. If they want Trump, that is their democratic choice and we should not infer stupidity on their behalf if they do so; the same as we should not infer stupidity if they reinstate Biden. It is their choice. It is our democratic choice to vote in who we want on this side of the Atlantic and is the French citizens choice if they want Le Pen. Our decision is merely to observe why the electorate votes a certain way; normally it’s because the direction of travel by the incumbent government is not keeping up with overall public opinion. Some call it populist; it is their choice to call it so but it exists nevertheless.

But we were told that videos like these are "deceptively edited or misrepresented." According the Whitehouse press officer and certain posters on this site.

'US Supreme Court raises bar for obstruction charges, siding with Jan. 6 rioters'. Trump's appointees returning the favour.

It was already a very low bar to even describe it as a riot. Quite tame milling around of people.

Nothing to see here. This was a classic bootstrapping by the Democrats and the Supreme Court voted 6-3 against it so a bi partisan decision. The law the democrats was using related to senior executives in corporations shredding documents to avoid prosecution like Enron or the Post Officer scandal. The court ruled that this charge can only stick if the prosecution can prove that the demonstrators actually destroyed congressional documents, most didn't. Most of the people charged with this crime are also charged with other more serious crimes so whilst a victory for the Trump camp in practical terms it wont make much difference to people spending time in jail. Still I expect this to be the first of several decisions where the Supreme Court tells the Democrats you made this up.

Populism is not keeping up with overall public opinion! It’s pandering to it rather than trying to lead it. Which is the real job of any representative in our system. We don’t elect delegates who vote as directed by us. We elect representatives who are expected to think and vote for what we need and not what we want. That it exists is though obvious. Exposing its dangers and weaknesses is something I believe needs much more exposure that it’s getting.

I am surprised that you believe in a parliamentary system; surely reinstating the Monarchy to decide what we need rather than what we want is the way forward…

This was a very small part of the overall charges and although technically a loss won’t have any significant impact. I cannot though seeing the Supreme Court, even as presently constituted, attempting to suggest that the Jan 6th events were made up by the Democrats. They would totally destroy any credibility should that happen it’s so clearly untrue.

They do. They have many, often conflicting, opinions. It’s how our representatives behave that is questioned. Do they represent, or do they follow? If the latter we can save a lot of money and just hold on line polling on everything!

Some just pick small clips and use them selectively. We know Biden has mobility issues. So have I. Doesn’t stop my brain working or diminish my determination. Making fun of such things, as Trump once famously did, is a sign of complete ignorance. What matters are morals, ethics and standards. Things which Biden has, despite the attempts by the Trump supporters to suggest otherwise, in spades compared to the character of Trump, who even compared himself yesterday to Al Capone! Something I hope comes back to haunt him as it’s one of the truest things he has ever said. There are many to compare though!

Entering private offices and chanting about stringing up Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pence? That wasn’t tame milling around! There was a lot of violence.
