After listening to a few radio programmes yesterday, I agree with DanH. The phony outrage over the national anthem stuff is pathetic. Amber Rudd was banging on about it on the World at One. Pouring slime over Corbyn in a fit of phony outrage, pretending he was some kind of traitor. Amber Rudd. Worked as a consultant at JP Morgan. Then at a Venture Capital fund. Then she ran a financial headhunting company. If she ever sang the national anthem, except at a rugby match, before she went into politics, I'll eat my hat. Surely it isn't phony outrage - as has been pointed out he made a mistake and it seems it's one he won't make again.

I know nothing about Amber Rudd or her relevance to this matter, but I wouldn't call the reaction by most likeminded people to me as "phony outrage".... just disappointment and a strengthening resolve not to ever vote Labour.

As if she gives as much of a sh*t about the national anthem as she pretended to. You should've heard her. Banging on about being a "disgrace to servicemen and women" like he'd been burning poppies or something. She'd been briefed to have a go and completely overdid it in my opinion. Criticism, fair enough. But singing the national anthem is a convention, at best, not some shibboleth that if you don't adhere to you're some kind of Trotskyist agent provocateur. He turned up. He was respectful. The way Rudd was going on you'd think he'd gone draped in a Soviet flag or something. I'm way, WAY to the right of Jeremy Corbyn but let's have a bit of perspective, shall we?

Just because you can afford to send your child to public school it doesn't mean that you have an issue with comprehensives. My daughter went to Independent schools both at primary and secondary level but my wife and I considered the State options. My wife was a teacher in the state sector ! Having considered the options we decided it would be in the interest of our daughter to educate her privately and we were in the fortunate financial position of being able to do so. Most certainly the state primary school we were offered never had the best of reputations. If parents have the necessary financial means then why should they not do what they feel is best for their offspring ? We all want the best for our sons/daughters and If I for example cannot afford something that another family can, then best of luck to them I say.
All well and good, but looking at the government, it hardly shows public schools help towards a meritocratic system does it?
