For anyone interested in the Commons debate, its been a fairly predictable procession of sychophantic speeches from the Conservative back benches but with a few very good speeches on both sides. The most impressive have been the more generous, or at least balanced interventions from the labour side.

And, in case my earlier post passed you by, Glenda Jackson is a wizzened, bitter old crone.

I watched some of them, it was quite impressive from everyone I saw.

Cameron said today that Thatcher had made Britain great again. Hang on, he also says regularly that Britain is broken. So how broke Great Britain? Tony Blair who he quotes as an inspiration. Gordon Brown who continued Tony Blair's policies? David Cameron himself?

I am sure that you have posted elsewhere that Cameron is a proven liar. He's a politician, he is desperate for votes.

You're quoting the Mail and saying the Beeb is biased?

The BBC should of course be impartial.
In many of the television and radio news bulletins it appeared that Margret Thatcher was on trial and the case for the prosecution was gathering force.

To show Thatcher was anything other than a bitchc*** would be biased.

Nick - I can't really be bothered to read all of this but do you really live in the 'workers paradise' of Chislehurst?

Indeed Matt...

That is one of the funniest things I have ever read on this site.

Yep, I got a key worker grant towards my mortgage. Thanks Tony.
Is there a problem with a socialist living in a Tory area?

No not at all. I wouldn't mind one of these though...http://www.chislehurst.co.uk/property/#/requested_page=1&sort_order=ASC&sort_by=price&i=1

Nice gaffs. Way outta my league, my house cost about a tenth of the value of those...
No old money in the Hurst...

It's absolutely effing hilarious.

You, berating Thatcher and the Tory's, yet adopting Tory values and taking what you can in 'leg ups' in order to join the aspirational classes.

Enjoy your trip to Chiselhurst Strada.

Buying a house because the repayments are cheaper than exorbitant rents was a necessity rather than adopting Tory values.

Just because you have socialist values, in a capitalist society, doesn't mean you should live in a commune, anymore than it means you should have a 'proper' working class job.

I remember a old friend of mine saying it was hypocritical to get a well paid job, and be a socialist. Thats just the language of d**b f**ks.

There is no dignity in poverty.

Absolute bollocks. If you talk the talk, walk the walk.

Both you and Nick have massively gone down in my estimation over the past few days. You are a middle class, John Lennon wannabe and Nick is an aspirational Tory-son. Rebel, boys, rebel.

Both of you need to deal with your middle class guilt and get on who and what you really are.

So you would?

Start another f'ing thread.

I didn't start the Jewish thing.

That was a bit harsher than I meant but you won't let it lie.

I never knew I was engaged in a one way discussion!

Look how about no one mentions sodding Jews again and we can get back to the more relevant subject in hand.

Margaret Thatcher had a lot of time for Jews. Based on her experience of the large, self-reliant Jewish community in her Finchley constituency.

Well yes there was her racist speech about 'people being swamped by an alien culture',

Well actually Thatcher expressed the view that people were afraid that they would be swamped by those of a different culture which is rather different from your statement.

Indeed.

Regardless, preferring your own perceived national culture to the perceived one of others doesn't make you a racist.

A person's race isn't their culture.

It depends what you call national culture, and what you don't. There is no singular national culture, it varies according to each person. Some peoples view of national culture can make them racist.

Stop blaming Thatcher for having to deal with reality.

You seem to think that we should borrow from the market to keep people in jobs or tax everyone higher to keep them there.

That's a failed economy right there.

Hence the word 'perceived'.
