Million's of lives ruined not through Covid 19 but losing there livelyhoods. It has a 99% recovery rate you're being played It's a Scam.
Also do you notice how the Labour party are complicit with no statements from the 'forensic' one?
Ladies & Gentlemen enjoy your taste of communism

99% chance of surviving but a lot higher chance of long covid. That's not a scam.

Do you know why the press conference was delayed? No? Me neither. Maybe they all went to the pub while they could? Or maybe they needed to confer with others in the devolved administrations who weren't immediately available, before announcing it? What seems most likely to you?

Losing your livelihood is not the end of your life. It happens for a variety of reasons and good people recover and rebuild, normally without the level of support now available.

In contrast as dying from Covid really is the end of your life I think a little more perspective is required.

Your comment on "communism" is ridiculous.

Then go the whole hog? Ban cigarettes & pipe tobacco & while your at it ban liquor add on unhealthy fast foods as well because just these 3 things alone will & do kill more people than Covid.
It's not even a proper lock down because you can bet some people will be exempt.
If the NHS is unable to cope then it seriously needs reform.

Maybe something is happening meaning it has more patients than normal; your starter for ten, or nine,or eleven.

Hmm Wisbot - so if someone has just lost their job, with very little chance of getting another one and is likely to be made homeless as they cannot pay their mortgage your words of comfort will be “at least your not dead”.

Then you can remind them that “good people” recover and rebuild and normally without the level of support you are going to get.

What about “non good people “ -(whatever it is you mean by that phrase) - what happens to them?

Have you ever been made redundant?

Do you have any perspective of the real world that so many people are currently facing due to the economic catastrophe being wrought - you demonstrate a complete lack of understanding and empathy.

Loads of 'Whataboutery' as usual from the Sage of St Austell.
Of course people recover from loss of lively hoods etc.
As for Covid 'really being the end of your life' for something like 99% point whatever it actually won't be.

Be sure to apply the same standard to the repeated 'they'd have died soon anyway' type comments aimed at elderly people dying of covid that are common currency on here, or some clearly not giving a damn when people advocating wearing masks receive a vicious beating. There is certainly a lack of empathy, and its from multiple directions.

No resource anywhere, in any circumstances, ever provides boundless supplies for unpredictable demands. Having large hospitals and trained staff standing idle in all but exceptional circumstances would, rightly, be regarded as inefficient.

That is a fair point in general but I have never said either of those things.

I accept that CV is real and it is a difficult balancing act between health and economy but it does frustrate me when certain posters completely dismiss the terrible effects that losing jobs/livelihoods/ homes has on people and glibly state “economies recover” etc.

It would be nice if people were able to speak about this topic in a more “ friendly” way - despite having different views on what the course of action should be.

This is the route you need to take. Wear a mask, wash your hands & have a few restrictions on the amount of people you can have say in a store Etc.
The real issue is there are to many exemptions
You can go on an Anti France rally, but can't go on a remembrance day parade.
Also those who are shouting the loudest about working from home let's see how keen you are in 6 months when your company decides they can pay someone equally as capable as you in Vietnam but a fraction of the money

99% of those infected means that keeping the infection rate low is the key. Letting the virus run amock would mean huge numbers of deaths and the NHS unable to serve those needing treatment from other things.

Doing what you, and several others seem to believe is all that's needed is an incomprehensible and irresponsible attitude that would result in a much higher mortality.
