Videos of testing centres all over the NE and NW and tier 3 Nottingham empty but of course it lacks credibility and these thousands of positives are happening somewhere (hospitals) so we mustn’t spread misinformation. Maybe when the recorded number is 250,000 with measures according to imperial college it might become a bit obvious there’s something amiss to maintain the fear to convince the public (well some of them) to remain scared out of their wits.

I agree with you to a point. But the problem is also that the methods of handling, treatment and demands of the government and the opposition have made people see that most of what they’ve said or claimed is fear based and selectively picking the worst they can find. There are without doubt eyes on the public inquiry. There’s been no honesty or respect of the nation’s intelligence over this. The scientific modeller who’s got every crisis wrong times 10 in 20 years and went sh&gging during the lockdown is still used by government and respected by many because he’s a ‘scientist.’ I don’t know what he just said on the bl00dy bbc but it was something along the lines of lockdowns just delay the inevitable. If nothing substantial happens in this month, and it shouldn’t be extended if it does or doesn’t have enough of an effect, then it’ll be a complete waste considering.

Really, who actually cares about Christmas that much vs months more of this dross. If this lockdown happens then it should be because it needs to happen now, not to make it work around Christmas. And on that note, this made me chuckle. 'Christmas isn't just a festival. It's an idea that leaves a warm glow in all of us. And there will be plenty of heart-warming tales this year. Scrooge will stick his head out of a window and send a boy running to Pret for a Turkey sandwich to send to Tiny Tim. Hurray! Pret is saved! Three wise men will bestow gifts of gold, gold and gold on Robert Jenrick for their stable redevelopment. Tim Martin will appear to us, warning us if we don't change our ways, we will live an unfulfilled life of not paying £1.09 for a pint of Carling in a piss-soaked Wetherspoons. And our hearts and our souls and our lungs will be filled by the magic of Christmas.' I sort of agree on Christmas, but that’ll happen with roast chickens and paxo regardless of what Neil Ferguson churns out of his computer. But people really are underestimating how deep this depression is going to be. But hey ho, it’s only the poor and young who don’t know what careers are anyway so crack on.

No one below 50 is scared out of their wits. Hence more measures. Will people follow them as stringently as in April? Unlikely. They probably won't care. They will care when they lose their job though, but not before infecting everyone else and sustaining this laissez-faire, misguided stick it to the man bravado ending in them blaming everyone else but themselves for being out on the street. Truism – self-centred morons are ten a penny these days.

It’s the choice of measures to keep the vulnerable away from this that’s key.

I listened to a great interview with this chap last Wednesday on the Richie Allen Show. With regard to this thread, maybe there should be a warning for fellow posters... Before clicking on the link, please beware there is ZERO conspiracy theory contained within.

Oh for sure But anyone protesting about mass compliance and angling to go for an 'only protect the at risk' scenario, is in my opinion, barking up the wrong tree People not 'at risk' will simply take this as 'well this doesn't affect me' and take the piss even more than they are now. Result – even worse Segue – the govt doesn't really care about deaths. Politically they have to say they do. But all this is really for is NHS capacity issues. That's it. And fair enough. I still think people are clinging on to unrealistic expectation and a 'why should I suffer, and if I do, you should bail me out' attitude. Welcome to big school. People are going to lose out, it's russian roulette now, so suck it up and get on with it.

No I just didn’t see it. There has been no increase in excess deaths for ages and other causes of death seem to have dropped to close to zero, in the months where deaths start rising annually. I accept that deaths will be rising but not the rate they’re claiming. Edited by Rudi Hedman (31 Oct 2020 6.02pm) The death rate from Covid has been at a steady constant from the end of June, through July & August and to the middle of September. From then on there has been a slow but steady increase, however the cause for concern and what has really set the alarm bells sounding is that the most recent ONS release of official figures (27/10/20) showed that death registrations involving Covid-19 had increased from week 41 to week 42 by 53% That is an alarming rate and I would imagine the as yet unreleased figures for weeks 43 & 44 will show a further alarming increase. The ONS is the UK’s largest independent producer of official statistics and the recognised national statistical institute of the UK. This is not a claim, these are actual statistics from an independent body. One cannot dispute or ignore a 53% increase in Covid related deaths, week on week, from the most current and available official statistics.

That’s an interesting take, but when English people are told under order they can’t do something they end up wanting to, and vice versa. And people with vulnerable dependents probably won’t. I think the government care about Covid death numbers. And this has been a big part of the problem. Yes I agree with the last bit in a way. That’s modern western people. Problem is that many wanting this all year have fallen into the public sector, work from home or retired and don’t really need any of this anyway.

I wonder how much people will comply. I doubt I’ll change much and the pub trips I haven’t really enjoyed which are out anyway. Just done a few to get a few in and help businesses and waiters. It’s the mixing in other houses. I reckon loads will ignore it as it’s colder and dark.
