Having just read the Reform manifesto must say it's really quite good.

Having just read the Reform manifesto must say it's really quite good. Somewhat lacking in detail beyond headline 'contract' policies designed to appeal to, well, people like you. Which makes total sense at this early stage Classic fodder for parties who don't expect to be elected and are therefore solely focused on getting votes and growing voter share. I think their timeline is this 2024, offer things that appeal to the UKIP base with a sprinkling of other things that are more centrist in appeal. Don't bother with the details. Grow user base. Next election, more of the same, but this time a little less jazz hands and more detail. Not loads as this will be too viable and therefore lead to watering down sensationalist impossible to implement or fund policies and loss of user base. Sprinkle in more centrist offerings than last time. Next election offer more mass market policies to give themselves a chance. hardcore user base complain as all the policies they signed up for years previous are watered down or ditched because they're not actually viable. Become like Labour and the Tories as it's the only way to get into government. Never ceases to amaze me the amount of Faragites that think they're anything other than early adopters. Also if Nige leaves the whole thing dies. See UKIP. Unless an Obama/Blair level charismatic leader comes along to replace him and take the party to the next level, of course.

However the economy is going to worsen over Labour's term and maybe even collaspe globally before the end of the term. We know he's throwing social conservatives red meat and doing a tepid form of British Orbanism. It's the right thing to do if your plan is to move national conservativism back to the right and away from the uniparty consensus and provide a challenge to social liberalism. Personally I see Reform and a more right wing Conservative party merging in the opposition years despite what Farage says now. Edited by Stirlingsays (17 Jun 2024 10.45pm)

An actual right wing manifesto instead of a socially liberal one. This summary of Reform's manifesto is definitely titillation to any genuine social conservatives. In truth to do most of this he'd have to change laws and sack the majority of leaders in the institutions.....But hey, nice to hear it. Edited by Stirlingsays (17 Jun 2024 11.00pm)

Reforms manifesto is just common sense. Nothing right wing about it

I cannot believe there is a serious proposal to lower the voting age to 16. Brazil and Argentina are the only major countries to have this and in Brazil it is a precursor to mandatory voting at 18. Even North Korea is 17
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

I happen to agree with you, we're not allowed nice things but I'm willing to let someone like Reform lie to me instead of the Tories again. Can't remember where I posted it but I recently posted about how this populist movement lives & dies with Farage, if it has any hope of lasting we have 5 years to find a proper successor to Farage (not Tice) at some point he's going to have to back away from the public otherwise someone will try & knife him so it may not even have 5 years. Forget manifestos. This election is about taking our only opportunity to punish the complacent self serving, lying politicians who have totally betrayed us. We can kick Labour out next time after they inevitably make everything worse.

Having just read the Reform manifesto must say it's really quite good. I read it, and the leaflet posted through my letter box last night. I laughed out loud. It is so predictable and impractical it could have been lifted straight from these pages. It’s populist garbage produced by those who know full well they will never have to deliver on any of it so can produce dreams and then criticise others for not delivering them. The attitude on climate change was particularly revealing. It’s no better than saying you will halve taxes and double spending. What’s worse is that some people obviously think it’s deliverable. Or “really quite good”. It almost makes me wish they were given power for a few weeks just so their supporters could witness the immediate meltdown. Just as we did with Truss. I hope those Conservative voters thinking of switching to Reform read this carefully. They aren’t all incapable of realising how impractical it is, so I hope this actually ends up harming their prospects. I suspect it will. It certainly deserves to.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |
