What that also highlights is that 4 out of our last 5 games have been against the three most in-form teams and we've only lost once.

Edit: I realise I somehow missed Man City from the equation! It should read three of the four most in-form teams.

I acknowledge that Vieira has tried to get us to play more of a passing game, ‘through the lines’ to use his term.
The less charitable observers amongst us may view it more of shuffling side to side with a fair amount of backward passing.
Possession without purpose.
I don’t think there’s only one correct way you have to play football, but do think you should utilise the most effective methods, with the resources at your disposal, to hurt the opposition.
The evidence would suggest we are not doing this.
It could be argued only Guehi, Anderson, Doucoure , (a fit) McArthur and possibly Olise and Zaha are capable of playing the way Vieira would like us to play.
None of our full backs have the attacking or overlapping qualities required and nor do they possess the ability to deliver the ball from wide areas.
Ayew and Schlupp are not pass and move type players and are careless in possession.
Mateta, Edouard and even the talented Eze appear to lack the mobility, physicality, energy and sheer desire to play their required roles.
It’s a conundrum as we don’t possess the pace to hurt teams on the counterattack as we used to, so I suspect we’ll continue to attempt to muddle through in a similar fashion.

I don't think Vieira is trying to make the players fit into a style that doesn't suit them, it's more that he had the players he needed last season when he had Gallagher, Kouyate and a fit McArthur and this season without them he's been tweaking the midfield using good players out of position rather than bad players in position - and Hughes was clearly not his buy - took him three months to play him last season. Shuffling the pack only has so many perms and he ran out of them, hence more defensive set up lately and the two January editions. Lokonga got great reviews and I have faith in PV's judgement re Ahamada. Remeber our 'super Pat' song last year, all the other fans are copying it, give it four or five weeks and we'll be singing it again, except you'll have to replace the word Wembley with 'to twelfth position again'.

I think that's a fair commentary PA.

What I would also add however is that a footballing ideology often becomes subject to ridicule if it does not yield results. Even Klopp is finding that out now.

What concerns me with PV is the seeming lack of Plan B or pragmatism either in game or in general. It's all well and good being taught x way or approach but if it doesn't work then well, you could go months without even a win.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Vieira dosent care about Palace, Vieira cares about Vieira, he wants to play a certain way, come what may, we go down, he leaves and gets the chance to try again somewhere else, we lose some of our best players and end up trying to pick up the pieces.

Just checked the points total for the teams below us in the last five games and apart from Leeds, we have the worst return. With Wolves current one nil up against Fulham they will only be below us on goal difference.A couple of losses in our next few games and we will be down there in the mix.

Maybe but probably not. I see the clubs below us moving up but not all of them and I see us finishing in 15th. They can't all catch us. There used to be a prediction type thing where people predicted the results for all teams, but I haven't seen one foe a while.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

Let's just cross our fingers and hope! Starting tomorrow. A draw would be a great result

I witnessed the Fulham v Wolves encounter tonight which ended 1-1.
Wolves were top drawer in the first half and fully deserved their lead.
Fulham, outplayed by Wolves before the break were much improved in the second half but Wolves confirmed my view that they will not be relegated.Their passing, movement and energy were far better than we have displayed this season.

My concerns are:

1) Our squad seems a bit fragile, and I'm not sure they are up for an ugly relegation battle.

2) We're banking on playing bottom teams for the last 2 months of the season. It's true that those teams should give us more points than playing Man City, Arsenal, ManU, etc. On the other hand, all of those teams will be looking at us as a chance to gain 3 points and survive relegation. So again, I'm not sure we're up for ugly battles against relegation squads. On paper, we should pick up points, but we've done nothing to make us believe we can consistently beat out these lesser teams.

3) So'ton always pulls a Houdini and escapes relegation. Same with Everton. So I have a hunch those two will escape. After them, who? Bournemouth...Leeds...Who else? We could easily end up in the discussion.

An important point that is often missed is that they all have to play each other. 1/3 of the remaining games are relegation battles. That means either 3 or 4 points are wiped out.

If one team wins then the other loses 3 points and if its a draw they both lose 2 points.
