I think that's been obvious for a long time. The culture promoted by Johnson and his advisors was disgraceful. I bet the professionals who were the architects of the policy were less than impressed by the behaviour. The policy was not to induce fear but to reduce it by providing reassurance that measures were being taken to keep people safe. The fear already existed.

Not to induce fear. Right.

I will never understand why they closed the gyms and stopped sports. especially for kids. If covid affects the the unhealthy where was all the advice on keeping healthy?

Vitamin D and C. There was absolutely no advice on that.

Instead it was stay in your home hide under your sofa only go out once a day and dont go far.

All while Mcdonalds stayed open....
And all over a 99+ percent survival rate.

You might as well try arguing with the dead.

There is always something to argumentation but it's better doing it with good faith actors in terms of actually communicating. However, I occasionally like the absurdist aspect to it....but it's pretty dysfunctional over time.

I was referring to when Covid first appeared, its impact not understood and no vaccine available. We were all fearful of the unknown and willing to adopt measures that were intended to restrict its spread and keep us, and our health service, safe.

Your link refers to the emergence of the "Kent" variant in early 2021 when the restrictions had been reduced and people were receiving their initial vaccines. As a result, there was a reluctance to have to follow restrictions again. The fear motive is very powerful so I can well understand it being used in those circumstances to get people's attention.

That doesn't excuse the behaviour of those in government though. The policy may have been sensible, but their behaviour wasn't.

As is depressingly usual, and totally predictable, whenever your arguments have been politely, carefully, patiently and comprehensively shown to be unequivocally false, you descend to diversion and insult as a response.

Maybe you gain some masochistic pleasure out of humiliating yourself in this way. It's the only justification I can see for it!

From memory there was quite a debate at the time over whether it was sensible to close the gyms. Sports did resume as soon as any kind of social mixing outside the family circle was permitted. We resumed, socially distanced, lawn bowling very early. Contact sports being a different matter.

We have covered your "survival rate" assertions before. No point in going over that again.

You appeal to some delusional consensus for your minority views....which are minority even within your hypocritical choice of Cornwall.....and as the majority of replies to you show, the embarrassment only goes one way as most people won't speak up for you despite the considerable and slightly pathetic fawning you do whenever anybody ever did.

Most people can see the mental weirdness on display and just keep clear.....as for me, as I say I sometimes have a penchant for the absurd.

It's not my survival rate. It's the figures and facts. But yes you are correct no point in going over the facts again.

There you go again! Another ad hominem as a response. I truly believe you cannot control yourself.

I am perfectly understanding of the way the majority here respond. It only speaks about the majority view in this tiny corner, which is itself only a minority view in the real world and most certainly too here in Cornwall. People holding the kind of views espoused by you and your sorry band of coathangers are treated as a joke here. I was relating some of them to a couple of mates in the pub last week and it caused great amusement.

I have perfectly reasonable and respectful exchanges with several posters here who don't see eye to eye with my politics and have never had personal comments as a response. You aren't totally alone in that, but you are the stand-out most prevalent user.

It was your interpretation of what they meant and the conclusions you drew that were at issue, not the statistics themselves.

So the purpose, yet again, was to protect the NHS. Well, it's not as though they haven't shown their gratitude by not going on strike so that's OK.
