You must be insane.

I suggest you read the report that Teddy referenced. It's all in there.

The BBC are reacting to the revelations that Rafiq made, which were then followed up by a response to a question one of their journalists asked.

Their decision is editorial. It is not judgemental.

They have made the editorial decision not to have him in the TMS team for the Ashes and to remove him, for the time being, from the firing line whilst this story is current, as it would be awkward for him.

I would expect he is still being paid. It's not an unusual situation these days.

I hope, and expect, it will blow over. Nothing can be verified and, hopefully, it is just a genuine case of people misremembering, or completely forgetting, events which others remember differently.

I hope so as the BBC has not instigated an inquiry so he had not had the opportunity to refute the allegations to his employer.

Already he claims that he has 6 players who were present who support him. I would not expect him to publicly name then but he should be allowed to put up or shut up to the BBC in an internal inquiry.

That omits the context of the words. Calling someone a Brit has no real negative connotations, whereas P**i is more routinely used as a racial insult (hence why HOL censors it), so that they're both four letter abbreviations or are not incorrect in conveying another meaning still strips what is often the meaning and reason for saying these specific words, especially nowadays.

If someones child had learning difficulties and you call them a 'retard' in certain circumstances it might technically be the right term to use, but in a societal context expect the parent to be grossly offended. If someone calls a man's wife a 'bitch' in front of him , fine she's female so again he's correct in a sense, but expect any man worth his salt to quickly correct the language used (unless his other half is indeed a bitch ).

Still, nothing is out of bounds really in the right setting. I'm just addressing your point regarding why words can often fairly be taken in very different ways.

I can tell you right now Blue Jay that I am hugely offended by you referring to me and my fellow countrymen as B**ts and I would like you to withdraw this offensive word with a full apology to all B**ta.
There you have it. About time someone makes a stand against constant racist slurs against us B**ts.
Someone needed to say it.
Now get a life grow up and move on.
Probably find your in my row at the Palace. !!!

I made a clear, reasonable and indeed jokey point about why context in referring to someone as a 'brit' or a 'p**i' may factor in. Giving other examples of it. You have no point to make other than playing to an audience. I wasn't saying anything that was particularly controversial and have only bothered to reply as a courtesy since you decided to address me weeks after I posted. If it's alright with you I'll not bother to engage in this section of the site in future, as I stated the other day. It's largely a waste of time, ever evidenced as such.

That is hilarious coming from you.

You keep saying you won't post on the political threads any more, but you keep coming back.

Don't waste time responding with your usual slurs because you won't get a reply.

I was quickly following up on a reply to me. Thanks for your insistence that you won't be replying back. As you're not part of the exchange to begin with, that's no trouble at all.

I wish you well.

He said a week or two ago he wasn't going to reply to me any more.

It didn't last long, so if you change your mind you will be in good company. Or bad, depending on how you view things.

Actually, I said that I wasn't replying to you, which is different. There was no commitment going forward.

I reserve the right to reverse that position when it amuses me.

The BBC decision on Vaughan was entirely predictable - guilty until proved innocent nowadays.
His life and those of others will be destroyed by unproven words taken out of context and so we now live in a world where anything could come back to bite any of us just because someone wants to cause aggro.
Matthew Hoggard got dropped from a dinner last week because of Rafiq - he will likely lose a ton of work now.
He apologised before this all became public but that is not enough for these nutters.
Rafiq texts anti-semetic stuff and chats up young girls and apologises and that's okay - but not for Hoggy of coursse - hmmm - I wonder why?
Are there problems in cricket and other sports - yes I am sure there are.
Are they getting better - I believe so from what I hear and read.
Will this kind of witch hunt do anyone any good and make everything better - very unlikely.
As I said a week or so ago - educating people is the best way forward but as always the pendulum has already swung too far.
Thousands of calls to a phone line to report racism and bullying in cricket where you can bet that the vast majority are pure rubbish and as always the important stuff will get lost and the cause will regress.
One player has been quoted as saying that they mimicked his voice and it made him feel bad - well mate - I work in construction and it has nothing to do with race it is about mickey taking so stop using race as the reason and join in the fun - they probably did it to a high pitched ginger as well but we haven't heard about him have we!
Common sense and reason have gone from our Society - we are pathetic now - utter madness.
I will though always say that bullying of any sort has no place in our lives - I have suffered from it in the past and it isn't pretty but some of this stuff is not even worth listening to.

I see Sky News is now running a story that 2 ex players are claiming that Cricket Scotland is institutionally racist based on these players speaking out & then not being selected to play for Scotland again
