That Shearer analysis of Benteke not going to meet the low cross before the keeper when Benteke can suns it up for me. Be a grown man Benteke you complete wimp. Do what you can to score goals and you simply are not. Sort yourself out, or I'd let Sørloth sort you out, if you care.

im sorry, i know its early days but i dont see enough in sørloth to make him a focal point of our team. Benteke has been completely useless all season - Shearer pointed it out tonight but he only said what we’ve been saying for months. He doesn’t work hard, he doesn’t hold the ball up, he doesn’t assist and he doesn’t score so why should he be a focal point?

Watched Benteke, heard Shearer, read Wiki entry. Christian is a big boy and is currently stretching opposing teams by being as close to their goal as possible. In the match, I noted that when he chased the ball he caused trouble. A lot of the time he was marked out of the game - keeping two players occupied and leaving Palace players more free to play. I did notice that being big he gets no protection (being obstructed) and is penalised (I saw one Spurs player fall and secure a free kick when Benteke was too close to him. Fear seems to be the right work for him, and I concur that he should be pulled back so that he gets the ball in midfield and runs forward to do damage rather than winning the ball closer to the goal (sometimes without support) and wondering what to do with it. Roy and Ray have a challenge on their hands, but I believe he can be helped to re-discover himself as a dangerous striker. I think he will benefit from being told how to vary his game (at the moment he is too predictable). COYP

The evidence is clear. Benteke isn't doing enough, by far. I know you may not have seen the commentary.

I saw the game live on beIN and the Thai commentators were spot on with their analysis of Benteke. He's not going to score unless he gets a millimetre accurate pass to his head, he lacks positional awareness and he lacks commitment.

We can't assume Sørloth is the answer ... he's one for the future! When we're playing in the Championship ...

Benteke was poor yesterday. Spurs played a high defensive line and they knew they could do it because neither of our forwards and particularly Benteke have any pace about them. There were two opportunities yesterday where Wilf would have massacred the centre half for pace. Benteke simply gave up half way through the chase because he wasn't quick enough. There was simply acres of space over the top to run onto especially second half and Roy should have capitalised on this and had the courage to take Benteke off and put one of the speedy youngsters up front to give the centre halves something to think about. This would have allowed us to advance up the pitch another 15-20 yards which would have taken some of the pressure off. I actually think the only thing Benteke is half decent at is the quick lay off and defending corners and it is the latter why Roy probably left him on.

Don’t like shearer But was spot on with Benteke. He left him on to defend corners ? Yeh right ! He cost £30 mil he should be the finished product.Lack of confidence is one thing ,he is not going to get that back by hiding and bottling challenges. He just arrogant and not interested in playing for us and he would defo not be in starting line up if we had options. But me for soloth and wilf up front will be our only hope of staying up .

I have to admit that inference was spot on. I'm one fo the few who feels Benteke gets a lot of bad press when the team is doing poor, but this just hit the nail on the head. His movement in the final third is indicative of a bloke who doesn't care enough. He wont move from knock ons, and if anything Sorloth flicked it to the near post, had it been gayle you know for sure he'd of at least tried to anticipate it. Benteke is just one of 10 cogs that will cost us at the end of the season.

I have literally just watched MOTD 2 on catchup and normally I find Shearer a bit of a prick as a pundit but his analysis of Benteke is spot on. He is hiding. He's not interested and he's not up for the fight. People are saying he has no confidence and to a degree they have a point but he has been w*** all season. He struggles to trap and control simple balls. How we think anyone will take him off our hands for £20m I don't know. I wouldn't pay £10m for him. We need him out and off the wage bill at the end of the season. Sorloth has shown more effort and fight in 2 games than Benteke has shown all season. Bit sad to see people digging Sorloth out already. Hes played 2 games on the left wing.. hes not a left winger! Plus he hasnt played competitively since early December. I think played in his right position and when he's up to speed he will be fine.
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |
